Fair Value?

It is more likely than not a shooter, not a collector item, and my snap thought was about $800. As for $2000, we used to have an involuntary substance abuse treatment statute here, and this dealer sounds like a candidate. Dear me. It is not just the price that is high.

I'm a newbie when it comes to older smiths and even I know that is an insane ask for that piece. The price isn't just "on the high side".... he is blatantly trying to take advantage of any sucker who enters his shop... sad.

OP I bought a 4" NYSP marked with magna's from a vendor at the gun show 11/2023 for $650 cash. Traded the 4" I had $475 in for a new Model 69 even right after to a buddy at work. Don't ever go back to that store

Bought a NYSP marked 28 for $500 a few months ago. One of the forum members told me about it. I went to get it and found a pre model 14 for $500 as well. Both came home w me.

Went into a LGS and they have a 28-2' 4", magna stocks. Cosmetically there's some wear on the stocks and just the beginning of a cylinder ring. Otherwise it looks great. Mechanically it's very clean and tight. No box or anything, just the gun. What would be a fair value?
I'm not saying that this is "fair value" as you are asking about, just reporting that in my area, as you described it, would likely be in the $1100-$1200 range.

IMO, ( and going by my favorite statewide classified site) $600 would be a nice deal, $650 fair/realistic, maybe $700-750 OTD, if it's really sweet. Beyond that, he's fishing for suckers. That said, in just a couple more years, I'm betting $750 will be the deal/bro price.
