K-Frame Locking Bolt Retaining Pin

Are there two sizes of locking bolt pins? Are they model specific? Are they barrel length or profile specific?

I ordered from a used parts supplier and I got two diameters - .059 and .069. Length OK but I had to drill for the larger pins. Just wondering if I need to be more specific in what I reference in future orders.

1. Could very well be depending on vintage. Those pins have been used for about 118 years now.

I always re-use the original pin.

IMHO you should NEVER drill out an old gun (or old anything for that matter) to make a new pin fit. You should always machine the new part because it's always replaceable (if you screw up) and doesn't alter the gun.

Pins can easily be made from Drill Rod (rod they make drill bits from) and that is available from Company's such as McMaster-Carr and most machine shop supply company's. I buy them in every size up to 1/4" (0.250") and seem to use many sizes constantly. While I have actually machined them into drill bits on rare occasion for a specific one time task, they are used mostly on guns, tools and equipment to make pins.

In a pinch you can always sacrifice a new drill bit - all you need is a Dremel.

Thanks for the replies. I had no original pin. I replaced barrel and ordered a locking bolt, spring and pin. No collector value. Nothing structural. It worked out and functions properly. Just a small pain to have to do it.

I didn't think of th drill rod. Duh!
