K frame T-Grip

I was very fortunate to find at the local gun show yesterday a three inch 13-3 S&W 357 (the only one in the whole place). I do not want to put anything rubber on it; are t-grips for a K frame readily available these days?

Tyler T-grips are almost a must for these guns unless you order grips from Ahrends or perhaps badger. The company seems to have been through some turmoil. I don't know the specifics but their shipping record has been spotty. Some people get theirs right away, some wait months. I'd contact them and ask about availability and promtness of shipping.

Grip adapters make that model look similar to what the FBI used (they actually used either Pachmayr or S&W grip adapters), but for me, because the grip adapters shift a little with stout loads, I prefer the type of grip that offers a filler behind the trigger guard, but still does not extend below the frame at the bottom. Same effect as a grip adapter, but no "recoil shift" and neater appearance.

If you have to have a grip adapter, look into BK Grips in St. Louis, Missouri as they make grip adapters with two attachment clips instead of one, which supposedly reduces recoil shift. The owner has sent these to some forum members and the posts on here seem to indicate satisfaction. His web site also indicates disclosure and honesty where he states NOT to order his grip adapter if you are using it for one of the scandium J frames as he is not satisfied with the fit. For that model, he suggests waiting until he resolves some fit issues. You don't see most merchants doing that. I like that quality in a businessman - good old honesty.

Hogue Bantams are pretty neat, or the so-called "boot grip" if you can find one - the original maker is apparently months behind, at least if posts on here are to be believed, and there is simply no reason for it. Another good one to look at is the Secret Service grip by Eagle Grips. For a while, a licensed copy of the "boot grip" was made by Uncle Mike's and then Butler Creek. They are sometimes available on ebay.

Pachmayr makes the Compac Pro, which has an open back strap and is only slightly longer than the grip frame. While rubber grips might not be the best choice for pocket carry, the 3 inch Model 13 is not a pocket gun. Therefore, get a nice grip that will help you hold onto the revolver and control that recoil.

S&W used to sell some "boot type grips" on its web site also, and I am not sure who made those, but they did offer one for the K frame round butt.

I am a fan of Tyler Ts on my K frames. As far as availability, I have ordered three or four in the past year. Received all in reasonable time. The attached pic is a few of my round butt K frames, M-13 on the right. I don't think you can go wrong with the T grips.

Given the current price for t-grips I'd rather spend a few more bucks and get a proper set of wood grips. They fit my hand better and look better, too.

I agree with you about that.

The grip adapters keep that "Old School" look that many like.

I have received adapters from both BK and Tyler. Both were quick to receive and quality it good.

I agree -- BK is quicker but Tyler seems to have it togeather these days

I ordered 3 set of tyler grips in late October called a week later to see if he had received my check, they said yes and I should receive my grips soon. My check was cashed on November 4. Ive called a few times since and left a message but have not received a call back. The last time I called their machine was full. I know this is a busy time of the year but I thought I'd have them by now.

Are the gold and silver T grips made from brass and aluminum, or are they all made from plastic?

I'm thinking my square butt 10-5 snub is screaming for Ts or BKs.

Good luck! Tyler T has sent me two grip adapters for my RB 2 1/2" 66-3. Neither one fit without a very noticeable gap between the trigger guard and the frame. I sent them both back. I expect better fit and quality for my money. I sent the last adapter in with a note to please get it right, or refund my money. Right now, I don't really care which way it goes. I've run out of patience with that outfit, and BK will likely be seeing my future business.
