K22 serial info and value opinions

I hate to be critical of people guessing when a gun shipped, but, your all way wrong. If you really want a ship date and the destination you need a factory letter.

The gun is still there as I went today as I've been wanting it. I took the grips off and they weren't numbered to the gun but they sure do look of that time frame. They had some other number which I don't know what it was, I assume another serial or part#. I assume during this time frame all grips that were shipped on these revolvers were numbered. The grips Not being numbered and the $800.00 price and looking at others on the web and this forum I just figured I would leave it. I wish I had more experience on telling if bluing was original. Many others I see have a dull blue while this one seemed a deep black with a shine to it but still had muzzle wear. The bluing looked similar to my model 28 which was reblued. I like nice shooters to collect as I take care of my gun shop find nice shooters and treat them well. Honest wear and not abuse. So I try to find original shooters or if not priced right and accordingly.

K18,732 – K73,121…...1948 (manufacture) is not a guess. Additionally, I list six K-models within several thousand of the OPs, all of which shipped during the late 1948-early 1949 period. So how how could that 1948 dating estimate given by others be "way wrong?" No doubting the possibility this one could have resided in factory inventory for awhile prior to shipment, but it's unlikely it stayed there past 1949. I agree that if someone feels they need a very precise shipping date, then a letter would be required.

I would have to agree that $800 for the gun pictured may be a tad high. I see them for $600 to $750 in that condition without box or tools. If the stocks don't match then collector value takes a hit. The serial number is only 5 digits so that's a plus.

As a shooter only, then maybe $500 to $600. Dealers don't typically take off huge amounts and you may be better trying to find one through a private sale.

I would explain these things to the dealer and offer maybe $600 or $650 and see what he says. Wrong stocks, no box, who knows.
