K22 ship date please

My Model 17 is serial # 1K5148. Can someone tell its shipment date?

The published information on serial numbers refer to production dates, which may differ from ship (sales) dates by days to decades - no joke! A popular gun may have been sold the same year as it was made...unless it got put far back into the vault...or was produced late that year...

So the letter of authenticity is the only way to get a ship date, or its official S & W birthday.

Close enough for me. I was reaming the chambers, saw the numbers, and thought I’d ask.
I bought it used around 30 years ago.
Going to the range Sunday and I’m anxious to see how it ejects now. It tends to stiffen up after you shoot it a little.
3Ts, nice shape outside of wear to the blue on the ejector rod and a light circular scratch around the forward side plate screw. Never really noticed it until I was taking out the screw to pull the cylinder.
Maybe after I get back Sunday I’ll take some Flitz to the chambers to put a final polish on them.

I think that this answer is partially correct. You can join the S&W Collectors Assn, and request one ship date a week, I believe.

Yes, sort of. Mr. Jinks will supply the month and year. With a letter you get the precise day of the month and year, as well as the destination.

And you have to "wait in line" because only 5 requests can be posted at a time. It is unlikely you could actually get "one a week." But no one is complaining. It is a great service to members that Roy provides.
