I recently found a worthy contender to put up against my trusty K22 from 1948 - namely, a Colt Officer's Model shipped the same year.
I shot 100 rounds of CCI Mini-mag and 50 rounds of Federal Gold Medal. I was shooting at 25' using an unsupported 2-hand grip - both single and double action. Both guns were sighted in from a rest first, and produced dime-sized groups dead-center on the target. I made no adjustments. This is to explain that the results are more my fault - not the guns. I gave myself approximately 5 seconds to empty the cylinder while shooting.
I expected to feel some significant differences between these 2 guns but found both felt comfortable in my hands, and I had no problem switching from one trigger to the other.
As you can see from just 2 examples of targets, there was little difference in the group size from either gun. My first 5 shots with the K22 were usually tighter but I would send a flyer down range with my 6th shot - and blow the group.
The OM did have 3 FTFs during the range session - all with CCI ammo. These rounds all fired the second time around - and I put this off to the Colt being picky about this type of ammo. By comparison, differing ammo choices will loosen or tighten groups on the K22, I've never experienced a FTF with the gun.
I usually shoot DA at the range and this probably explains why you couldn't see any appreciable tightening of my groups in SA mode.
I did learn that the top of the K22's rear sight is getting a little shiny with use and needs to be darkened a bit.
Overall, I'm very pleased with these 2 "classmates" and will enjoy repeating this exercise again soon.
Best Regards,
Jerry
