Congrats, that a fine revolver you got there.

I'm still looking for a nice Mod 28-2 w/4" bbl for my collection. I've got one with a 6" barrel however, those with a 4" don't turn up as often.

Thank you for the warm welcome gentlemen!

Now I will tell you what makes this purchase so special.

I have been retired from the California Highway Patrol for 4 yrs now after a 32 yrs in law enforcement. I am going back in uniform next Feb for a part time job with a small police dept at the local community college. They require that I provide my own firearm so I had been visiting the local gun stores for a 40 cal semi auto. When I finally decided on what to buy I went down to make a purchase. While I was in the process I observed a large framed blue steel revolver next to the gun I was buying. I saw the tag & it said S&W 28 $799.00. I have not seen a handgun like this in a gun store for many years. I inquired & was told that the owner had passed away & his son did not want any guns in the house so he sold it to them. Otherwise they don't usually have these for sale. I could not believe my eyes. I immediately told them I wanted to buy it, however California law requires that I can only purchase 1 gun every 30 days. I gave them a deposit & I will pick it up next month. This is the "Highway Patrolman" 357 mag that I always wanted because I was a highway patrolman. It had to be Karma that led me to that gun store where I found it. I can't wait to fire it.

Always good to hear a story like that. I doubt that anyone has ever been disappointed with a 4" M28. I've got one on layaway myself. :)

Pretty sorry when a retired LEO can't buy more than one gun at a time. I would have left the 40. Your gonna love the 28 when you get it.

I can live with it. Yeah I should have left the 40 but I was so happy I wasn't thinking straight! Besides, I have to start shooting the 40 asap to prepare myself for my new job. It is different than the handgun I was carrying when I retired. I will send more pics & info soon thanks!;)

I hope you aren't the CHP officer who stopped me going 123 MPH on Highway 41 back around 1975...I guess that would just a bit before your time. Never mind.

Gee, I had a very nice 4" 28-2 advertised on this Forum for a couple of months . Only got a couple of inquires at my $650 but no takers. Sold locally 2 weeks ago for my asking???

Congrats Rudy. I know you'll love shooting your 28-2. I know I do mine. I have 2 four inchers and I wouldn't part with either of them.

Nice. Any idea on the age or serial number range? Just curious.

Also curious as to which .40 you settled on.

I didn't write down the serial number but I am very curious just like you are! When I go pick up my 40 next Saturday I will make sure I ask for the number. I bought a Beretta PX4 Storm .40 cal. I wanted to go back to a S&W 4006 40 but the dept I am going to work for doesn't use it. I originally wanted a Ruger but they don't have a decocker/safety. I also thought about a Sig Sauer but they don't have the decocker/safelty either. When I found the Beretta I immediately chose it for the that safety feature. The price wasn't bad either :D

I have always been a fan of big frame revolvers. Way back in 1978 when I was 21 yrs old I bought a model 29 .44 magnum. I was reloading my own ammunition & going to the range once a week. I had the gun for about 6 months then it was stolen from my residence. After that I quit guns. I always wondered if the gun was ever recovered.

Rudy
Hey I understand the Karma.
I bought Four 28 with 6" bbl before I came on one (4") at a local shop. Had been carried a lot but was in very good shape. When I looked at the Serial # I thought it looked familiar. N46xx. I was standing there contemplating whether to buy it when the number came to me. They were the last 4 digits to my cell phone. I said I'll take it.
The one just before that a friend of a friend had a 6" 28 for sale for $275. My friend said that the guy was trying to sell it and he knew that I liked the 28's.
I asked what condition it was in and my friend said that he had not seen it. I said if it looks ok I might consider it. A few weeks went by then he tells me he has the gun and it looks good. I go over and it is an S prefix about 95+ condition, no box or papers. Smooth target or presentation grips. I asked him 3 times $275 he said yes and showed me a paper the original owner had written a description on and it had $275. Again I'll take it.
