Any experience with this 9 MM from Kel-Tec? Just wondering if they are reliable enough for a carry pistol? How about extra magazines, anyone got any to sell?

I have one. A little Back story. They were popular as back-ups as they could take a S&W 59 or 69 series madazine (though longer). So a LEO could use his/her duty weapon mags in the BU gun in a pinch.

KelTec recently discontinued them, but they pledge that they will be supported as long as possible. KelTec has a great warranty and great customer service. For a short while, a P-40 was made but it jammed enough because of user error, limp wristing, so it was discontinued. NOT because of failures from the .40 round.

The design is so popular, Sccy stole it and that's what their pistol is based on. Ruger stole KelTec's P3AT design and calls it their LCP. Huge lawsuit that Ruger settled.

Anyway, if you opt to use S&W mags in it at the range, replace the stock magazine springs with Wolff +10% springs, as the P-11 slides has a short fast travel, and the stock mag spring sometimes doesn't lift the next round fast enough.

It's my summer carry in my cargo shorts.

You can find the magazines for sale new. About $22ish for 10 rounds, or @26 for the 12 rounds. MecGar makes them and they even have the MecGar logo on the factory mags. CDNN SPORTS - CDNN Sports The 17 rd MecGar flush fit 59xx mags WON'T FIT unless you massage the upper taper, too wide.

My experience with Kel-Tecs is limited to test firing different models numerous times at gun ranges. I always end up purchasing Berettas or Kahr semi-autos for comfort and reliability. I admire Kel-Tec as a lab and for their warranty.

i had a KelTec p11. Sent it back to the factory 3 times for 3 broken ejectors. KelTec asked me to send them the magazines too. After the last time it was repaired i traded it. I probably shot 100 rounds through it. The service was good but the gun wasn't.

I went to buy one, the store had one new & one used, I couldn't pull the slide on either. Went to a different store and bought a used M&P9c used for 10% more (2 years ago November 6).

I like it, the trigger pull is like a slightly heavy DA revolver and it has been reliable in limited use.

Be sure to note the "P-11" name means they usually shipped with 10 round magazines, so 11 with one in the chamber. There are factory (Mec-Gar) 12 and 15 round (S & W) units, the former fits without protruding too much and latter using a spacer so the magazine catch engages properly.

Hey, that sounds just like a more recent product from another company, touted to be the next great advancement in pistols! (And before all the hate, yes I've tried one of those too and they are nice. :)).

My brother bought my younger daughter a P-11 for her university graduation. It didn't like heavy (147 grain) bullets, but was quite accurate with115 grain Winchester Silvertips. Twenty-one years later, it's still her carry pistol.

No, I don't know where I went wrong. [emoji849]

I had a P32 that was perfect until I fired it over my Chrony. Replaced it with a S&W Model 37 then a Model 642-2.

Concur on the trigger--like a smooth, heavy DA.

You can shorten the legs on the OEM 10 round follower, and
it'll hold eleven. It'll hold and feed twelve, but it's more
work and risky, for that 12th round.

Check out the pocket clip*, for CCW. Not for a beginner, but
works on this gun because of the long DA pull. Same idea
as a Bahrami hip grip.

Only complaint on mine is it shoots about two feet low at
25 yards...I keep thinking I should try it with some +P 147
gr stuff.

*make that a "belt clip".

I have one, and I also have a PF-9 and P-32.

These guns are pretty rough from the factory, so I would definitely break one in with a couple hundred practice rounds and then test it with my carry ammo.

I suspect Kel tec stopped making the P-11 because the PF-9 will do almost everything the P-11 will do but has a much lighter DAO trigger and a slimmer profile. Shooters these days are conditioned to striker fired guns, so a heavy DAO trigger is not desirable. If Kel tec added the PF-9 trigger to the P-11, it would be serious competition to the SIG P365 at half the price.

Also, the PF-9 can be gotten for almost nothing - $154.99+shipping. I ordered my PF-9 from that link, and I think it was $163 total. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

The wife and I both have one. When I first saw them they were selling for $550, the price went down to $250 and I bought the wife hers. She was carrying a DAO 69xx on duty and wanted something lighter for off duty, it took the same mags and she liked the feel of it and it was reliable out of the box. She still keeps hers next to her side of the bed. Mine was used and was priced at $180 with a pocket clip attached. I found a .40 S&W conversion kit for it but have never tried it. I'd thought about removing the pocket clip as it's not very left hand friendly, but I don't shoot it much anymore.

Note that the P-11 has a true double action only (DAO) trigger - pulling the trigger will cycle the hammer every time. If there is a misfire you can pull the trigger and try the round again. The PF-9 has a Glock style action where the slide has to be cycled to "pre-cock" the mainspring, so you only get one pull. (I call it it 1-1/2 action.) If there is a misfire you have to work the slide for a new round (which is what you should do anyway, except maybe at the range).

Also, both the P-11 and PF-9 have a hammer, as well as the P-32 and P3AT. The hammer has no spur and you can't manually cock it, but there is a hammer rather than a striker. The term "striker fired" has been so misused that lots of people think it means something that it doesn't, that it has to do with a DAO-like trigger pull like the Glock when it has nothing at all to do with the trigger. A Luger is a striker fired pistol too but that isn't what Joe Commando thinks of.

FWIW I own several P-11s in 9mm, .40S&W and .357 Sig, as well as the PF-9, P-32 and P3AT. However my carry gun is a Diamondback DB9 which is one of the smallest, flattest 9mms available. It is also cheap and can be had for $200 or less if you shop around. About the only drawback in my opinion is that it lacks a slide lock.

The P32 started it all and has been a significant success ( as Ruger found out). I've owned two, and gave them to my sons. As already posted Keltec has made some stinkers, but also have some great handguns. re; brand new P32 for $200 ?? Everyone should own one .:)

I had a DB9 for about a year, and REALLY wanted it to work.
It spent more time at factory (about eight out of 12 months)
for replacement of broken MIM parts, than it did in my possession.
Great sights, sweet trigger pull, and accurate--but it wouldn't
feed through a single magazine without one or more stoppages.

Diamondback is an air boat manufacturer,
about a half-mile down the road from Kel-Tec,
in Cocoa, FL. He's managed success with the
.380 and cranking out AR clones, but overall I
think the guy got the wrong idea at chamber
of commerce after-hours.

P32

I have or have had 3 of the P32s.
All work perfectly even when pulled from pocket holster lint and all.
I dont care for the other models, but they have some good ideas with different firearms.
I just use fiocchi ball ammo.

P-11

I have a P-11 with their stainless waistband clip-on.
Perfect carry!
Never has failed me.
Best concealed carry pistol out there!!!

Appreciate the shared information

Good to receive so many replies and thank you all for the candid & very informational reports. I saw one for a good price, less than $200.00 and though it may be suitable for pocket carry in 9mm replacing a P3AT in .380 caliber. Time will tell after a trip to the range, of course!
