Key West FL Help?

I was in Key West once time, about twenty years ago. My ex-wife and I had dropped our elder son at school in Orlando, and drove down there just to say we'd been there. It was -- ahem! -- "interesting".

Hemingway's house was neat, as was the "Southernmost Point in the USA" marker. US Route 1 runs right through our town in Maryland, so it was cool seeing the sign noting the southern terminus of that route.

Walking down Duval Street, we passed a men's leather lingerie shop...with an anatomically correct mannequin wearing a leather thong. I asked The Barracuda if she thought I should buy one...she smacked me... :)

Enjoy your visit there, Hunter... :)

I've spent many weeks in Key West and the Keys in general. I used to hold my User Conferences at the resorts there. You couldn't do Key West justice in a month of banging every day. Laid back is the motto.

There is one single best place to eat in Key West:
Blue Heaven.
We tried to find it three times and then decided to take a taxi. When we got there the taxi driver turned around without missing a beat and said, "NO, really, this is it. I guarantee it's the best place you ever ate".
He was right !

Get the outside seating which has incredible old giant trees with chickens in them. Swings for everyone to play with. The best music I've ever heard in a restaurant. A Must is to try the blackened chicken and their bread pudding. This is my highest recommendation of any place on the planet.

Mel Fisher's maritime museum is incredible for history and just looking at the gold pieces. He paid dearly for that gold which is an awesomely bad story.

Breakfast is always at Pepe's where Hemingway used to go.

Many of the bars have world class music at night.

A 6 hour bus ride for 5 hours in town will leave you upset at what you missed. It's and end point, not a side trip.

I used to dock my sailboat at nearby Stock Island, near Mile Marker 5. You'll notice that US 1 Overseas Highway is navigated by Mile Marker (MM), from MM 127 in Florida City to MM 0 in Key West.

5 hours isn't much time. If you want snorkeling, the closest decent spot to Key West is Western Sambo Ecological Reserve. I don't know if any of the boat operators' schedules would match your itinerary, or if any of them are still operating due to the pandemic.

At least get some photos at the Southernmost Point. Check out the Ernest Hemingway home with its 6-toed cats.

Then, you can do the Duval Crawl. The tradition is that you start out at the north end of Duval Street. Go to a bar, have a drink. Walk to the next bar, have a drink. I think I made it to 4, being the lightweight that I am, but my recollection may not be accurate. Eventually, you'll still be trying to walk, but you'll actually be crawling. Check with the bus service first, to make sure they'll let you board, assuming you can still find the bus.

Ahh the Florida Keys
Five hours in Key West is a waste of five hours. Also those five are at the wrong time of day. You really should dump the buss and take a week to drive down and back, stopping at several spots from Key Largo to Key West.
Mangrove Mama's be sure to order your Cream Puff while being seated. They sell out fast.

Five Hours...That sounds like a great lunch in Key west.
Maybe even time for a cigar!
Pick a spot.
Be Careful drinking the " Mojitos".
Pronounced " Mo He toes"

You might miss the Bus ride back.
