Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall

Just got one of the four of my Kidde extinguishers subject to recall packed up and shipped off. The new one looks perfect. Kidde makes it easy and cost-free to comply with this recall.

I like the idea of getting 4 new extinguishers for 4 old ones at no cost. I hope to heck I never have to use them but if I do I want them to work as designed. My life might depend on it.

if you are waiting around to get this done, I suggest that you put it in drive and git 'er done, as they say. A painless process and it might just save your life or that of someone in your family.

I registered 2, but have only gotten one back, and that was delivered to the wrong address. Fortunately the resident there looked me up to drop it off. No idea what happened to the second, nor do the folks at Kidde have a clue what they've sent.

Also registered 2 and received 1 Saturday. The other one didn't have the date on it in the format they requested, I called CS and they attempted to help but I don't think I'll get that one replaced.

I've been waiting 30 days so far. No new extinguishers or further communications from Kidde.

Excellent. Yes, let's make everything out of plastic. If it breaks, who cares, the consumer can just run out and buy a new one. They're less expensive than the metal version, after all.

I had 2 that were under the recall and a couple of
First Alert ones that are a bigger size and different company ..

Its will be 6 weeks tomorrow the 6th of December and haven't heard a word from them .. I did print the paper with a code on it .. Guess I'll try calling if I don't get them by the end of the week ..

I got one of my two last week. It took less than a month. Fedex picked up the old one (33 years old!) yesterday. I'm still waiting on the second one. Then I'll send back my 38 year-old one. I can't complain about a company that will replace 30+ year-old products for free.

I had submitted (5) for replacement just under a month ago & all (5) were dropped off on my doorstep by FedEx on Saturady while I was out.

The metal handle & safety pins are definitely more durable looking. Repackaged the old ones & off to FedEx in the morning.

Can you image how much money this "cost saving" move is costing them?

.

I have received all of mine. The bigger one came first, then a week later the smaller ones.

Pretty daunting task for a company to not only ship out all of these, but to have them shipped back.

Fed Ex is happy I guess.:D

Got a e-mail from Kidde this AM saying the fire extinguisher for my replacements are back ordered and I would get the 2 owed me when they are in stock again ..

Anyone else get a letter or e-mail ????

I had two filed on the same request. It was over 6 weeks between arrival of #1 and #2, but I now have both, and the two returns are waiting on FedEx.

Last one came Saturday.

After getting an e-mail December the 11 that the items were back ordered I received the 2 that were on back order yesterday ..

They are smaller but carry the same amount of chemicals weight wise .. put the bigger ones back in the box and taped them up and Fed-x should pick up the old ones this afternoon..

How does one "back order" something they manufacture????????
Why don't they say they're out but are making more??????

We received the replacement before Christmas and shipped the old one back by Fed Ex today, on their dime.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

I have two, both the same model but made twenty years apart. The newer one that was made in 2016 was affected. The old one made in 1996 wasn't. They look identical except for the design of the plastic ring. Not sure why only one was in the recall?
