Just got an email from Crimson Trace celebrating the 1911 and showing several Kimbers with their lasers. But what is interesting is - THEY ALL HAVE EXTERNAL EXTRACTORS (the Kimbers, that is)!!! I know that imatation (sic) is flattery, but didn't they try to copy S&W before and fall on their butts? I'm thinking that since the Kimber web site doesn't show these, they are "unvailing" them now at the SHOT Show, and will update their site afterwards. Maybe CT jumped the "gun".

I bought a Kimber Ultra CDPII a couple years ago and reliability was zero, I shipped it back to Kimber they put a new slide on, swapped it from an external extractor to an internal one. The gun is 100% reliable now and shoots great. I can't believe they would take a step backwards and go back to external extractors now!

Perhaps the guns CT is using are older models. I really doubt Kimber would re-tool to go back to external extractors. Not all of the Kimber 1911's in that e-mail have external extractors. Either way, we'll know this week if it's unveiled at SHOT.

I had two Kimbers, internal was great. The other w/external was such a piece of crap, that I promptly got rid of it.

Sorry, I failed to point out in my earlier comment that our Ultra Carry CDP is around 12 years old now and the Ultra Carry is about 10. As I said, both have internal extractors.

I've had several kimbers, only 1 had an external extractor, That 1 put me off buying a Smith for several years. I just ordered a SW1911 Stainless with CTC laser-grips for 845.00. I really have not heard anything bad about the smiths "high power" style extractor, but you couldn't give me a kimber with and external extractor.

I have a Kimber Custom TLE II. It shoots better than I do. I have never had a problem with it and not a hiccup after the break in period. Internal extractor. I also have an S&W 39-2. When I first bought it second hand from a Contra Costa County Sherrifs deputy, It had major stove piping and Failure to feed problems. The Seller somehow forgot to mention it when I bought it. I called S&W and they asked the serial number. The then informed me my pistol was in a run that had been recalled for those problems and they would fix it at no charge. Even pay shipping. Since I got it back in 1985 it has been flawless. The external extractor has not given me any problems. I put a set of pachmayr wrap around grips on it and the gun feels like an extension of my arm. With the single stack mag it is just plain sweet.
