Here at the Blue forum, there are four categories listed for revolver discussion...

S&W Antiques
S&W Hand Ejectors: 1896 to 1961
S&W Revolvers: 1961 to 1980
S&W Revolvers: 1980 to the present

Would it be possible to kinda alter one and perhaps add one more?

I personally feel like the revolvers produced in the 80's and 90's (both of my J frames are from 1984 ;)) really do deserve their own category and the ones with the lawyer lock should be categorized by themselves.

We could re-name the last category "S&W Revolvers: 1980 to 1999" and then add one more category...

"S&W Internal Lock Revolvers: 2000 to the present."

Whaddaya think?

I kinda feel the same way about classification...but I have no complaints with the way it is. I'd venture to say the cost of bandwidth now ain't exactly chicken feed...

And then there is the "KISS" principle for regular people that might come and find the forum a bit perplexin' and complicated because they aren't up on the hobby as much as the rest of us. I wouldn't want to dissuade the feller with just one, or thinking of getting one from showing up here from time to time.

Probably not a good argument for or against, but my viewpoint. ;)

By the way, what is the word for giving an inanimate object human characteristics? I tend to do that too. :D

Good idea. It was proposed by myself and several others when the reorginization of this board was announced.

I don't recall what the reason was, but the request was declined.

Maybe if those M&P rifle folks keep annoying the owner there will be space to do it. Regards 18DAI.

I just feel like my babies from the 80's deserve to be in a category away from those ugly ducklings with the big ol' zit on their face.

In many cases, it's the same gun with an "added feature" (like it or not), so I'll have to vote no.

No...not really.

The lock models sport a matte finish over the old school glossy finish as well as MIM parts and rubber grips.

That would mean we had five categories a revolver could fit into, and it would still be incomplete.
That breakdown would leave any revolver made since 99 without a lock homeless.
That means we would need SIX categories. That is simply too cumbersome, and totally confusing for many people.
As I said when we split the categories, it may be altered in the future.
At this time, we are not adding another one.

Admin questions of this nature should always be posted in The Office.

Sir, thank you for the question/request.
There were many factors that went into splitting the forums the way we did. There are lots of complaints in modern S&W manufacturing, starting with dropping the pinned barrels and the use of recessed cylinders (about 1980). There are the MIM issues that many don't like, and there are the new frames that moved the firing pin from the hammer to the frame, many many more don't like that. The there is the lock, which is certainly a rallying point for a vocal minority of folks that use this board, sorry to say all the issues above were taken into account and the logical splitting of the board was drawn around these "new manufacturing" techniques.
We've certainly had lots of requests to split the lock subject out, it's not going to happen at this time. Besides, with all the new models without and with rumors of this becoming more of a practice (notice I said rumor), one has to wonder what we would do if they dropped it, how would we do that?
In any event, this gets a lot of discussion with the Admin staff.
For context, the splitting of the long gun forum was NOT at the request of the M15/22 crowd, but rather to allow the other long gun posters to have the ability to see their threads, you see this is somewhat about the popularity of the M15/22, not the fact of any real issue although there certainly has been some interesting dialog there about early production guns.
So, again I thank you about this and if you want - please continue to forward your suggestions in the Office. This isn't going to be a debate here on THE Smith & Wesson Forum

Thanks.
