Kinship towards gun guys?

I live in Illinois 5 minutes from Chicago where I grew up. I absolutely feel an instant kinship with other gun people when I can find one. That happens at the range because I don't advertise it by wearing anything that would hint I'm a gun guy. Really touchy thing here even though there are illegal guns everywhere. I try not to talk to anti gunners in general..

I have all kinds of shirts and hats advertising gun stuff. I have a shirt that says united we stand and whenever I wear it I get complements, not so much with the gun stuff.

Is that a United Way t-shirt? I have one of theirs that says the same thing.

Or is it more of a patriotic red-white-and-blue type shirt?

Kind of a moving target for me. Some gun enthusiasts I meet are cool, and can lead to some good conversation, advice and on a rare occasion even a friendship or two.
Other times is seems best to keep a low profile.

my family doctor and my dentist both have concealed carry permits and they keep me in good health.....

For the most part I do. The last few years I have been shocked by the number of folks who "appear" to be completely anti and have found out they were good gun people. I like talking to mature owners who have been around, done this and that, owned everything from 22's to things that start with .5.

But like someone else said, there is a big difference between gun owners and gun people. Have you ever sat in a CCW class and had to endure the dumbest questions and assumptions that people have about what they can do, are going to do, feel the right to do when they get that CCW card. Amazing.

Of course there are exceptions (I am thinking particularly of a guy who habitually tried to steal my spent .45 brass at bullseye matches).

But in general, over the years I have met a much better class of and more honest people at the range than I ever have on a golf course, no matter how "upscale" or "exclusive" that golf club happened to be.

I have one T shirt from Knight's that was a gift... and THIS. I've gotten a lot of compliments. It's nowhere near this nice looking these days. ;)
