As I posted in a thread my two favorite J frames are a 63-3 kit gun and a 33-1 in 38S&W. If I could combine these two into one gun with it being chambered for 38Spec I would be a happy camper. Of course it would be all steel, 4" bbl, adjustable sights either blue or stainless. I have small hands and J's fit me best even with std stocks. I like the looks and balance of the 4"bbl and think it would make a great trail and holster carry piece. The 38spec would offer a better choice than the 22 for both trail and defense. As my 33-1 lists at 18oz (never have actully weighed it) I believe it would weigh about 20-21 oz which would be fairly light.
Any thoughts?

britbike1,

If you can settle on an inch less barrel, I think the model 60 Pro will fill your requirements very well. It's 22.4 ounces so the weight is good, 38/357 gives you all the power you might need if you want it, stainless for ease of maintenance, and adjustable sights. I bought mine for a magnum kit gun just as you describe.

Thank you for the info. I'm not as up on current models as I should be. This would probably do ok for me even though I prefer the looks of a 4" a bit better. I'll take a look at one.

just bought a s&w m&p 340 chambered in 357, just for that reason. very little weight (numbers?)
so light it is as if not even there.
should never need but just in case a mountain lion thinks i am lunch, or a snake is pissed off.
or worse i stumble on a groups of illegal mexicans growing pot. but then i will be very under gunned.

just sad s&w thinks a gun needs a lock.

Britbike,

I bet you ride a Triumph?

I have a S&W Model 36-6 for pretty much the same reason as you describe. My 36-6 is not a Magnum, nor +P rated. It is now out of production, since only about 800 were made. S&W is now offering the Model 60 (-4, a few other dashes, and the -15) in this configuration chambered in 357 Magnum, but in Stainless Steel. I would suggest that this version of the Model 60 (which looks like a miniaturized L frame) would meet your requirements.

S&W has made several versions of 3" adjustable sighted J-frame .38 Specials.
I have a Model 60-4 which has rode on my hip over many a trail. I find it ideal for just what you have in mind.

Right on Irrifleman, 5 triumphs over the years, 500's and 750's plus a couple yamaha and a sporty. Keep coming back to the brit stuff. Also Lee-enfields and a 10-8 from the London metro police with all the usual brit marking on it.
Thanks to all who answered, guess I'm going to have to look for a 60-4.
