Knee Jerk (Rant)

America has become a country of people afraid to be themselves. We have developed into a group so focused on the whiner and malcontent as to enact laws championed by one or two outspoken complainants for new special rights to accomodate the special needs of the very few. All others must adjust, and be inconvenienced, and possibly give something up so that one in 5 million might be protected!

Please bear with me...lets take one example...not picking on anyone, this just comes to mind. Next time you go in a public restroom take a careful look at the sign on the door. It is made with raised letters but must also have a row of braille beneath the word. Yes, the blind need to find the restroom like anyone else, but unless they ask some one "where the restroom?" they will never find it anyway!

Don't get me wrong. I love ADA restrooms. I always use the accessable stall because there is plenty of room and it's always vacant.

My rant is this; I am hearing that most all the big name retailers are pulling black rifles off their shelves and websites in a knee jerk reaction to this horiffic act by a criminialy insane momma's boy.

Congess bellows "gun control" but what did they do when the tainted steroids from a pharacuticals producer with a dirty facility and illegal distribution practice get out? Nothing! More lives were lost a couple months ago from that incident and nothing.

Why does everyone buy into this??? The media loves it cause they gotta get 'em some market share. They run the story from every angle till soon they even analyze the neihbors. The government, not to be outdone, gets on the bully pullpit to denounce the wrongs and promise utopia once again, while secretly tacking on all the pork spending bills they can think of.

The taxpayers begin a frenzy to horde all the goods they may not be able to purchase soon because of impending legislation. The sellers and (some manufacturers) pull the stuff to show how they have distanced themselves from the horrid black rifle! Meanwhile, back at the ranch, they're wringing their hands hoping some other inventory would sell as well and earn them their fat profits like "assault" rifles did.

I own more guns than fingers and toes. Iv'e been shooting since my grandaddy taught me how when I was ten years old. My whole clasroom prayed then stood and said the Pledge of Alliegence EVERY morning. This is America, and these are the most fundamental things that bind us...God, Country and Freedom.

By the way,
I happen to like what Stoner did for the auto-loading rifle. It was the first true change in gun design in years. That rifle sold to the general public as a sporting gun long before the military ever glommed onto it.

Don't be a sheep, and don't panic as all this will fade just like everything else does because we have become so apathetic.

Proud to be a southernern,
and proud to be an American.

The only part I can really disagree on is using handicap stalls. I think that is bringing bad karma on yourself. I will only use those if all other stalls are full.
The rest I tend to agree on, and I like the pharmaceutical comparison.

Excellent post ! Its nice to read a rational statement on this subject.

We become suckers, manipulated into playing their game when we buy into the media hype. This was a sad, tragic event. But its highly unlikely to occur. Your odds are greater to be struck by lightening than be involved in such a mass shooting.

Fact is, there are those with an agenda to try to eliminate what is a natural right - - - to be able to effectively defend ourselves. It can't really be about violent crime reduction, or they would encourage concealed carry laws.
The greatest killler of people isnt school mass shooters or even gang bangers - - - its governments. That's why there's the 2nd Amendment.
The American Founders knew this. Its seems that many Americans have forgotten it, or were never taught it in the public schools.

P.S. - the orginal post said that - "Don't be a sheep, and don't panic as all this will fade just like everything else does because we have become so apathetic."
We must not go along with the hype in a way that burdens us with new laws and regs that have no impact on this non-existent 'problem'. Such laws do seem to hang around for far too long after we're forced into 'reasonable compromise' (which means 'we lose, they win'). It only encourages the antis to come back for more.

There is a professor at the university of Hawaii that has studied this exact phenomenon. It is called Democide. In the 20th century, various governments have killed more people than all wars in all of recorded history...COMBINED!

280,000,000 people!

Murder By Government--Democide

Thanks Andrew - - - I'm familiar with that professors work.

Its amazing the number of civilian deaths caused by governments in the 20th Century - - - even more so considering that these figures removed the numbers for soldiers fighting in wars.

Of course if you mention the real reason for the 2nd Amendment (and it ain't duck hunting, protection from criminals, or for mass shootings) you may very well have the 'tin foil hat' label put on you by the sheep. Thats a shabby tactic - the 'Ad Hominem Attack' which is the logical fallacy of attacking the person rather than their evidence or argument. (Have them look up the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act, which authorizes those in the executive branch to imprison or kill anyone they deem a 'terrorist' without evidence or trail, or even informing the 'target's' family what happened to their loved one. ) They don't know history . . and because of that we may be doomed to repeat it.

Well said, however, I feel that we are all preaching to the choir. Thoughts such as these would serve well in letters to the editor section of our local news paper.

It really is. My family came to the US, from the USSR in 1980. I will never forget a story that my grandmother told me. In 1936, she was a young lady living in Moscow. She was engaged to be married to an older man, who was an academic at the university. One night men showed up at his door, took him away, and he was never seen again. My great grandfather hid her in the cellar for a year for fear that they may come for her as well.

People are either ignorant, naive, or just stupid to think that this can't happen here. Various laws have already been passed that gives the Executive powers to detain citizens without due process.

Andrew - - - I was in the USSR before its break up many years ago. There were so many stories from people like your grandmother's. Even with the increase in openness at that time (Gorbachev), people tended to speak in whispers about such things for fear of who may be listening. The ground of that place is soaked in blood and tears. Older Russian people who I've spoken to in America are deeply concerned about the direction of whats happening in this country. Theyve seen it all before.

It is sad what this Country has become and it goes on and on, nothing ever changes except fpr the whiners, malcontents and freeloaders.
Do I see anything worthwhile coming out of this? absolutely not.
We can't treat real Criminals as Criminals and we can't face and do what needs to be done with the Mental Ill of society, but look out we have to do something about those evil guns, always the feel good knee jerk response.
When will it change?
My thoughts and prayers are still with Newtown

Indeed. I was born in Georgia (ironically, the birth place of Stalin ) and was 10 years old when my family came here. As bad as the USSR was, China was (and still is) even worse. The really sad part is that eventually, over the span of generations, the people begin to be brainwashed by the constant barrage of internal propaganda and "education" within the state run school systems. Check out the footage from North Korea:

Yes, of course, much of it is staged, but believe me, many of those people are true believers. They were born into an environment that constantly told them how great their leader was, how everything that is good comes from the state, how he is the one to be worshiped and obeyed, etc...The worship of The State is a religion, just like any ideology.

It is rather unfortunate that this "religion" has infested America culture and has gotten worse with each passing generation. However, I have hope. I think many younger people are waking up and realizing that something is rotten.

Please stop using the handicapped restroom stall if you are ablebodied. I'm handicapped and we need the extra room provided in that stall so please reconsider the next time.

No disrespect, Old cop, but public restrooms are first come, first served and I have as much right to plenty of room as you do. The accomodations have been made to suite your special needs but it doesn't preclude the use by others.

Ho disrespect intended Jim, but do you feel the same way about handicapped parking, first come-first served?

Andrewb70 - thanks for the video and comments.

If you haven't already done so, you might want to read George Orwell's book 1984 and afterwards watch the movie of that title which they made from it.
