Knee replacement

Anyone heard of the new knee replacement surgery where they go in the front? John Hopkins perfected the surgery and wondered if it had spread??? Need left one done, dinged it in basic back in 71 and been on and off since…
Greyman, I think that's hip replacements that have a new way through the front. I have a vague recollection of hearing or reading about it. I think the recovery is supposed to be faster than the traditional approach.

IMPORTANT!! THERE ARE TWO REPLACEMENT KNEE TYPES!!

I had my left knee replaced in 2006, 2008, and 2010, by
3(THREE) different surgeons.
Rehab for me wasn't bad. I have a freakishly high pain
threshold.

I promptly loosened BOTH of the first two, by simply being
very active (Teaching college refrig/HVAC courses).

I go to 3rd surgeon. He tells me there are two designs.
My first two were plate and ball glued to bones.
He installed a knee that drilled into bones a couple of inches,
made of "Porous Stainless Steel" that grew to the bone
Rehab was a bear 'cause first two made the
bones soft.

BE CERTAIN THAT YOU GET THE LAST KIND THAT ACTUALLY
ANCHORS TO THE BONES IF YOU ARE ACTIVE!!

Any more it is almost out patient type surgery. Do the therapy and FOLLOW the recommended re-hab. Don't push it. Best wishes to You for a speedy recovery and pain free walking.

Knees

Went thru the cancer treatment 6 months after I retired. Radiation made me weak as a kitten and the radiated pellets (67) injected into the prostate gave me hemorrhagic cystitis due to two misplaced pellets in the bladder with resulting radiation burns. Recovery took two years before the bleeding stopped. That was in '05.
Two weeks ago I met with my orthopedic doc at the Andrews Institute, he has operated on both my knees for meniscus tears with excellent results. That was in 2016, this time he injected a fairly new medication that worked. No pain in one day. As we were preparing for the injections, at 3K each, I asked what's next? Knee replacement replacement was his answer. He then showed me the X-rays from 2016 compared to those of 2024. Then he said the injections will only last 6 months. At age 82 I have much to contemplate. I will contemplate this challenge over a double dose of Wild Turkey to assist in my decision making. Good luck and God's speed to you guys.

Both of mine were through the front. Didn't know there was any other way.

Just looked it up and John Hopkins has a new procedure that they use smaller incisions and new " tools" and go in through the front. Surgery is done under a spinal or local and recovery is much better. Need to check around the local hospitals especially Mayo
