My old and new (i.e. current) EDCs...
I carried a Walther PPK/S .380 ACP from July 2016 until May of 2019, at which point it was retired for a Ruger LCP, then later that year I decided I needed something more powerful in case I had to deal with a hog since there had been sightings of some coming out of the woods surrounding my residential area, but I was strapped for cash. Fortunately, I happened upon a like new SW40VE for $199 sitting in the case while buying ammo, so I put it on layaway, then picked it up a couple weeks later, at which point the Ruger LCP became my Backup Gun.
However, the SW40VE wasn't the easiest thing to carry in the Summer, but I still wanted something powerful enough to work against hogs in a pinch, so in January of 2021 I ordered a Smith & Wesson Performance Center M&P40 Shield 1.0 for $359.99.
As you can see, the PPK/S and M&P40 Shield are roughly the same size, but the Shield is substantially lighter in weight, and chambered in the substantially more powerful .40 S&W cartridge.
Still, the Shield cannot hold a candle to the raw aesthetic appeal of the PPK/S.
