Know How To Start Your Car If Key Fob Dies

Where the light don’t shine

We have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. It has the Key Fob
with secret metal key.

I see when the Key Fob’s battery is low the Speedometer
tells you so.

After reading this Thread I need to figure where the
ignition key switch is. One thing I can’t tell you is
where I’d like to stick that key, I’d probably get
suspended from the Forum.

Thank you for the Public Service Announcement.

Regarding key FOBS....I always print out my cell phone number with a label maker and put it on the back of all my fobs, just in case I lose it.

Where did the name FOB come from????

But messing with us you do for free, right? ;)

The word fob is believed to have originated from watch fobs, which existed as early as 1888. The fob refers to an ornament attached to a pocket-watch chain. Key chains, remote car starters, garage door openers, and keyless entry devices on hotel room doors are also called fobs, or key fobs.

...snip I wish we still had the slider controls from cold to hot and a three speed fan. .....

Yeah, but then again I'm totally comfortable with my creature comforts like my heated seats and steering wheel, among all the other things..... :)

Just sayin'....

There is always a metal key inside the fob in case you can’t get into the car if the fob battery dies.
My Ecosport has a push start button as well, I just need to put the fob on the right side of the steering column (where there is basically the ignition lock) and push the button to make it start.

That being said, the owner manual is in the glovebox, and I also have it in a pdf file on my phone, just in case.

Good idea. About a month ago while playing golf our group found a set of keys including the fob laying on the 15th tee. Pick them up and planned to turn them in when we got to the clubhouse. About two holes later we see a guy in cart without his clubs driving our way. Held up the keys and they were his. Wanted to know where we found them. Must have fallen out of his pocket - he had no idea.

Reference to FOBS. Put my keys in a zip lock baggie and in a zipper wader pocket when trout fishing. Those of us who have gone done in cold water don't want to not get in our cars when we hustle back to get warm and dry.

The FOB on a pocket watch is the chain that has the watch on one end and the winding key on the other.
And the word FOB is believed to be derived from the German word fuppe which means a small pocket (like a watch pocket in a vest or jeans).

FOB ? Key ? Battery ? What's all that ? I just put the crank in the crank hole, pull out the choke, set the spark, give the crank a good turn, start the engine, hop in , push the pedal and off I go. Sure beats having to wake up old Dobbin, put on her harness, hitch her up and hope she feels like trotting somewhere I want to go. Ed.
