Is the Korean war finally over?

This is the latest ploy by the Kim family to get bailed out by their enemies. They've done it several times over the years. Every photo coming out of North Korea shows very thin people with ONE exception. His people are starving to death and need aid immediately. So he does all this war-mongering to scare us, then says he wants to make peace. He gets the aid and breaks all promises. It's the Kim shuffle.

They are masters.......

They are masters at alternately threatening the world and asking for help because it gets them what they want, while other countries hope that peace is at hand.

Somewhat (ha ha) reminiscent of the North Vietnamese going to the Paris Peace Accords when they needed time to consolidate their forces in Vietnam. Again, and again and again. We wanted out and they wanted in and they knew it.

I hope that we are in a stronger position to bargain with NK than many other SE Asian countries. But all Un has to do is pout and cut off talks and we'll be begging him to come back to the table.

He probably ate the north’s last chicken and is hoping the US and ROK will cater the peace talks.

Make him a cardboard sign “Will negotiate for food.”

My 88 year old Korean War veteran father who lives with me is very skeptical about this whole new development.

Well they already released the details of the treaty. NK agreed to a total denuclearization and a peace treaty. My mind is still blown away at the complete 180 NK has done. Either conditions are sooo bad over there that they completely broke down or they're in cahoots with someone and are plotting some deviot sinister plan to do something uncool.

I just don't get it. This suddenness confuses me.

What if he finally perfected what he has and toned down to get enough help to get what he started out to do? I had to get my hair cut to get a better job one time. You are not a tough guy one day and back off the next unless you have something up your sleeve.

Hope it is over but I want a lot of verification on any deals that we enter into. I truly believe you can only negotiate from a position of strength and our guys can’t wimp out as has happened so many times in the past.

The only thing that matters to Un is staying in power. If we remember that as the driving force this makes sense. It makes no sense to really go to war with anyone. His dad taught him to saber rattle and threaten until the world offered gifts in return for peace. He got his bluff called, so now he has to play nice. Seems pretty simple to me, he is doing what works.

Well, Kim Jong-un could simply be insane.

Or more likely bipolar, and he could just be on the downswing right now.

I'm serious. I've long had the suspicion there's been some inbreeding in that family...he could be the byblow of an incestuous relationship.

As my dad's youngest brother used to say, "That boy left his grits on the stove too long."

People like the Kims don’t stay in power by being stupid or insane, even though we seem to have this strange psychological need to belittle our enemies.

Kim has what he needs: Enough nuclear weapons to make taking him out like Saddam or Khaddafi much too risky for everybody who might consider it. Mission accomplished.

So for now he can negotiate, offer concessions, even stop any further nuclear program, do whatever gets him stuff, works to his advantage, and helps stabilize his power.

Whoever “wins” this round, it’s not going to be the people of North Korea.

Unless they had second thoughts about Trump's rhetoric and actually believe he WOULD push the button. The Chinese probably broke under the thought of have a large American force in the area having a shock & awe party on NK and got after kim hard to make peace.
But then maybe Trump's tough dealings with the chinese with this trade war is taking their toll on them & they blinked first?

Germany unified, Why can't Korea....Wait and see, Hope for the best.

A little different .. Germany wanted to unify, but could not due to the iron curtain.

KJU has established NK as a nuclear power. Per rule 303, unification is to be on his terms.
At least, thats the vibe I'm getting.
