I recently sent my Marlin 39A lever action .22 back to the factory for repair. It was having failures to feed, such that the cartridge would get hung up when trying to enter the chamber. Seems like all companies these days are operating on minimal support staff, so it took 2 months for a reply. But in the end they sent it back after making some adjustments and firing 36 test rounds (test target supplied). The amazing thing was that this was done no charge "as a gesture of good will". The gun is 30 years old!

Excellent! That will make me consider buying a made in America Marlin.

I just bought 3 of them last month, 336SS, 60SS and a 983S all for right around a grand. I had some money hidden that the wife didn't know about.

All of them are stainless steel with really nice wood .. great American made guns!

I believe Marlin routinely does this sort of thing. A number of years ago, just before squirrel season I broke a spring in my 39. That gun is older than Methuselah, and I was just hoping I still could get the part. when I called Marlin they sent the part gratis by first class mail so I'd have it before the season. I killed many squirrels with that rifle and have purchased many Marlins since, most of which have required no repairs. Compare that to my wife's Buick Rendezvous, when it overheated due to some UAW Jerk putting a quarter in the block that blocked the coolant flow intermittently, GM offered to give us a discount on a new GM car, but not to fix their handiwork. We have not and never will purchase another new GM product.

Not to worry though Uncle Barrack is looking after them, Marlin probably doesn't need a bailout.

I have always liked Marlin when I've worked with them. Most recently, I lost a bullseye out of one of my stocks so I called them up. The lady asked me how many I needed and I just said one. She ended up sending me four of them at no charge.

Tell me, how many companies do that these days?

I called Marlin to get a couple of screws for a Glenfield 60. One the previous owner lost, one he/she boogered pretty good trying to remove the trigger. I got a real live person in under a minute, in two minutes she had taken my order, and three days later the screws were in my mailbox. The charge was less than $4. Great customer service, IMO.

Oh, and it's a great little rifle, too.

It is good to read about excellent customer service from any company these days. Marlin is a fine company and the Model 39A is a true classic.

Oh yeah.
Marlin, RCBS, Dillon, Springfield Armory, Surefire and I've also had great luck with S&W and Ruger's also.

I own 5 Marlins dating from 1953 to about 1989.
I still have them but my Winchesters have long been outta here. (Just IMO)

Their customer service phone reps have all had that terse, New England-style, "Yeah, waddya want?" kinda thing but they always got results.

The above companies all rock in the eversomost granite-like fashion on my personal "wottaguy" list

i have an older 336 with hard buttplate. i called them to see if they would sell me the new soft rubber one. they sent me hard plastic one for a 1895 and charged me a few dollars. when i called them they said just keep it, we'll reverse teh charge and for whatever reason she couldnt sell me anew soft rubber 336 one.

very pleasant person both times.

think if i send them my old 1895 with micro groove barrel they will put on a new one for me ? do they have a custom shop ?

i have never had a problem with my marlins and i have many friends with 336 and 1894 and 1895s. never a hiccup.

I recently lost an e-clip from the trigger of my 983 Marlin .22 WMR. You'd think they would be easy to find at the local hardware. Not so, the small ones are almost non existant.
When I called Marlin the young lady said that only a complete trigger group was available. After a bit of whining from me she asked for the serial number of my rifle. I didn't have the rifle with me but I told her it had a T-900 series trigger. She searched her data base for about 5 minutes and asked me to describe the part. "Yes, they're $1.25 ea but we have a $5.00 minimum purchase." So I ordered four of them.
She was patient, friendly & polite and I complimented her after the transaction.
