L frame in .45 Colt

The perfect outdoors revolver. L frame in .45 Colt with options of 4" or 6" barrel. Blued or stainless...not fussy on that point.

So would a 9mm J-Frame, similar to the Charter Bulldog but with the Centennial frame.

I see where S&W has a 44 magnum L-frame....the 45 colt and 45 acp may be next. And if I'm not mistaken they have some 9mm revolvers out, not in J-frame....but that might could happen.

I've been hunting for a 25-5 also. When I saw the .44mag L frame announced it just seems natural a .45 version would be next. I'd buy several variations....just because I could!!

While I like both 45s and have 3 N frames that are cut to take both rounds, I would prefer an L frame in straight 45 ACP. The reason is I would want it for a carry self defense gun and while the 45LC is a great round it does have a draw back. The rim is very small. The 45 Colt has about the same rim diameter as a 44mag ( actually .002 smaller). It only protrudes from the case wall .016. This can cause it to slip out of the extractor on occasion when the extractor is very far out. If you were to camber the cylinder for quick reloads, which is a major plus for the 45ACP and clips it would make extraction of 45 colts even more likely to slip out of the extractor. If you SD carried it with ACPs and just used Colts occasional it would be OK, but, I believe in a short barreled L frame the advantage of 45 colt over ACP would be small anyway.

While the cylinder of the L frame will take reaming to 45 cal cartridges the barrel threads are of a size that would leave a very thin forcing cone. You can't increase the tread size because then the web underneath between barrel and yoke would be paper thin. But, then Taurus has done 45 ACP with the same frame size so it must work.

I bought the first Model 69 that I could find. It weighs less that a 1911 is smaller than a .460 Rowland conversion, carries 5 rounds of .44 magnum and shoots great. I have several hundred rounds through it most all of which are a midrange load that falls between the best .45 ACP/.45 Colt load and the full house loads the .44 is normally known for. I have shot the full house stuff through it and find it quite manageable but then I shoot quite a bit of .454 Casull and some .475 Linebaugh.
This is the New Mountain Gun or Hiker Gun. If I am so fortunate as to be able to wear it out I'll buy another one. Put this is a Simply Rugged holster and this looks like a rural or remote country carry gun.
Now to the .45 Colt on the same frame. Considering how thin the cylinder walls (.050) are on the .44 mag version I suspect the .45 Colt is not likely and certainly not desirable in any juiced up loads approaching .44 mag ballistics. Sometimes we forget that just because she will go 150 does not mean we always have to drive that fast.
I would like to see the Performance Center take this revolver, do some magic and get a trigger like their 625 PC gun. Oh and put some nice wood grips on it. For that I'm in line with an FFL dealer ready to receive one.
