L frame strain screw length?

I have a 386 SC/S that I bought used awhile ago. Never had light strikes after 100s of rounds of various brands, until I tried some LAX factory new ammo. I had maybe 3 or 4 light strikes out of 120ish rounds. Anyway, my research shows that the strain screw should be .505in. Is that correct? Mine is about .450in and has a flat nose, so I'm quite certain it has been shortened, unless my research is incorrect.

I ordered a new strain screw but I'm wondering if I should even put it in.

I've never had a light strike with any defensive rounds, and only those 3 or 4 after about 1000 rounds so far...

The threaded portion of the screw should be what you need to measure. My factory mainspring screws have measured .384" to .396", threaded part (OAL ~.522").

I'd suspect it's the ammo &/or possibly a firing pin on the short side. Ideally you want one in the .495" to .500" range. The one's in the .485" to .490" range are problematic sometimes, though I have ones that short that have fired thousands of rounds (handloads, w/CCI primers) without a misfire.
