Anybody have good luck with these with coloring the engraving? How durable is it during weapon cleaning? Where did YOU get 'em and in what colors can you get 'em?

Thanks all

Stick with crayons...they'll stay in there until you're ready to take them out. When you do, it will be a relatively easy process to get the wax out. Just my $.02

Sure...
I got the idea from several threads here. Search under either "crayon", or "tacticrayola." There are lots of step-by-step instructions. The main idea is to choose a color, run it over the indented lettering in several directions while pressing it in, and then take a rag with a little WD40 sprayed on it and wipe off the excess. It's easy to do, and pretty much always comes out well. When you decide to remove it or change colors, it's pretty easy to dig it out with a toothpick (or something similar) and a little acetone, wd40, or lighter fluid. Hope this helps...it's how the majority of the colored letters pictured on this site were done.

Got my lacquer sticks from Brownells. Wipe excess off (I actually use gun oil to moisten, and it wipes right off) and let dry. I clean as normal and wipe down. Has yet to smear or fade. YMMV.

I got mine off amazon cheap about $2.50 I think. I got white and red but they had a lot of colors. I filled up the letters and let it set for about 10 minutes and then wiped off the excess with ballistol. After I got it looking good I let it sit overnight and went shooting the next day. No problems with mine still look good no fading.

I used fingernail paint pens ( wifes pens for drawing fancely stuff on her fingernails) shhhh dont tell her :) they have a very fine 1/4 long tip.. but unlike a pen you dojt make contact with the surface.. just slight squeeze to get the paint flowing.. dry in 29 minutes.. and looked mint... i did the m&p in red 15-22 in white.. and also did the 'fire' in red.. and put a thin line of white on the edge of the safetly selector
I did that so out of the corner of my eye i could see itlf it was on fire or not.. if i seen white it was hot

Thanks all. I was worried the crayons would dirty with gun cleaning thus the thought of lacquer sticks.

I crayoned mine about six months ago and haven't had a problem with the coloring yet. I do wipe the outside down with a silicone rag, not CLP or other solvent, though.

So after another range trip I thought I'd give 'er some color.

I had crayons laying around that my 4 year old son doesn't have time for, so I thought I'd break 'em in.........
