Went to get a key made today and decided to get into a discussion about how I might want to replace the S&G mechanical lock on my safe with an S&G electronic lock. This at a reputable locksmith place where I live.

The fella' tells me that he can do me better than that and he produces a low-profile LaGard lock. He says that it is actually superior to the electronic S&G. He seems to think that since S&G became part of the Stanley company (the tools people), the mechanical locks have remained superior while the electronic versions have suffered in quality. I'm scheduled for the replacement two weeks from today.

Anybody know anything about that? I'll make the pre-emptive strike here and say that I don't expect any sort of electromagnetic pulse here in Victoria TX anytime soon. Just curious who might have this particular lock.

I don't know for a fact there's any "quality" advantage to be had by using one over another? Your probably talking to the right person though, to tell you if there would be. For me personally, I don't want my possible survival to hinge on what Barry Corbin in the movie WarGames called "sillycone dah-ods". But that's just me?

I am no lock smith but I do open locked safes for Liberty and Heritage.

Call this guy Mike Griffin 1 800-301-3562. He is an expert at this sort of thing. He is in SC and only deals with safes and is the man I call when I have questions. Hell most safe companys call him with questions. He will give you the skinny on this question.
