Whenever I removed the grips that little pin kept falling out , one day it fell out and I lost it in my bedroom. I never gave it a second thought. It's been "lost" for years now and hasn't caused any problems.

I would go down to the hardware store and find a pin, nail , some kind of round stock or brass rod , that would be a tight fit , cut to length and gently pressed into place, the original ones just keep falling out.

Could the hole be filled with J-B Weld ?
Wish I could see a photo of the "hole" , mine is different, just a round pin that falls out .

Hole or no hole , great revolvers!!!

I would probably just put electrical tape over it and put the grips on to keep dust out. You definitely don't want something that can come loose and lock up the action.

I put Hogue monogrip nylon grips on mine to cover the hole and because they don't grab. I wish S&W would fit their 2 piece rubber grips so their isn't a sharp seam between the panels, but I do like the hex screws and the factory grips are decent.

well got a update on the hole...Smith tells me ...sorry they do not know how to fix it and to put the original grips to hide the hole and not their problem.....well i can not carry that with those grips...so i think i have four solutions....see which one u think i should do....1...well the caulking idea is a great one...simple and easy...2...well find a black metal solid roll pin and install it...but i will have to remove the roll pin that hold the grips in place as they goes thru the hole..just need to put a notch in the black roll pin and done...3...leave it as is...4...find a plastic black roll pin and do the same as 2...i am very shocked Smith told me not their problem...these are not cheap firearms .....God Bless, John

Some one posted the link earlier, but here is the picture of the older style "butt swivel" or lanyard attachment that was mounted on the WWII Victorys.

Numrich Gun Parts have them for $16.50. That would sure make an unusual J Frame. I think that the Japanese contract has a slightly different attachment, though, and no idea where you might get one.

Best Regards, Les

well for a pocket carry gun...the lanyard is not a option....i use this in my pocket...in a ankle holster ....so that hole just needs to be closed up...

I understand. Just brainstorming... Hope that you find a good solution. I think the black caulk sounds good, inexpensive, and you can always remove it if you want to.

Best Regards, Les

I really would rather put a black solid roll pin and be done with it
See what i can find
Either way i will get something to fix it

It is not their problem, they solved it by installing grips that cover it. As far as being cheap, my LGS is selling them for under $400, that is pretty much the least I have ever paid for a new gun.

Sorry you bought a gun that is not what you thought it was, but for the money you spent, you got a really fine gun. It is scandium @ aluminum price, almost 2oz lighter than a regular airweight for the same money.A great deal IMHO.

Hope you find a good way to plug it, Ed.

well just a update...well i figured out the hole size as 5.56 and my idea is to find a 5.5mm drill bit and use that as my starting stock..i can easily use a lathe to make my plug for it...and make it easy to make more if needed as well...just need to find a source of black 5.5mm drill bits and will posy pics once i get ready to install this...i disagree that this is not a problem for Smith and the rep from Smith finally admitted i am not the first to be upset with this....they have the tooling and this would have been a simply solution to fix this....but i won this and plan on keeping this for my lifetime...God Bless,John...so anyone with this same problem..let me know if i can help as well...

I've been carrying my customized 360J for almost 8 years in pockets and ankle holsters and have never worried about the hole and have never had an issue. I blow the gun out with compressed air once or twice a week and call it good, every now and again, like maybe every year or two, I'll pop off the side plate, flush it out with gun scrubber and lube it. In my opinion and experience you're worrying about nothing.

While these are not cheaply made firearms, they certainly are not expensive guns. And, like I said, you're making much ado about nothing. Take a look at all of your revolvers, there's dust and dirt creeping in past the trigger, the hammer, the firing pin, and the cylinder stop. Closing up that little hole isn't going t make any difference.

Lanyard Ring from arrow tip

I used an arrow tip to make a lanyard ring mount for my 360j. I tried it first with the crazy point left on it. Then I decided I wanted to make another one that was a little more practical. I had to make a groove with a file in the tip and push the grip pin out to put it in. After installing it I hammered the pin in the groove to secure it. I also threaded the trimmed aluminum inside from my arrow with a little blue loctite to cover the threads. It is super tight and works good so far. All done with a drill, hacksaw, file, hammer, and punch.
