Last Time Shooting S&W Auto

Yesterday, I did 50 through my Performance Center Shield 9mm. Before that it was 50 last week, with 50 in a EZ 380.

Not much of a picture, but it's just another black gun.

To expand on the thought and to further lower your concern…

After buying my first 52, which was a 52-2, I started a multi-year deep dive chasing down every avenue looking fore MORE Model 52's and seeing & learning a lot along the way.

What I found countless times were 52's and 52-1's, many from estate sales, and many of them were offered in packages with one or two extra old style long extractors.

And in chasing down old correspondence in gun magazines and short articles, it seems that the basic story was that the no-dash 39 pistols certainly experienced premature extractor failure. I cannot say exactly why this happened but it is a fair bet that rough, poor and improper handling had a part in it.

When S&W elected to redesign the extractor on the 39 (and for the debut of the 59), it simply made good sense to do the same for the models 52 and 52-1.

And many owners, fans, competitors and general lovers of the 52 and 52-1 immediately called up S&W and asked to purchase a backup extractor or two for their old style 52 pistol.

…and it is exactly these extractors that we find included when these estate sales are offered. Extra parts that they hoped they would not need — and never did need.

Could the old style 52 or 52-1 extractor fail? Absolutely. It's a machined part made by humans. But prevalent? I would say it is not at all prevalent.

The 52-1 that I own was my fourth 52 and my first one with the old style extractor. It also has the best trigger of all of mine and honestly, it may have the finest trigger of any of my guns and I own many with truly elite triggers.

It's difficult for me to say which is my favorite 52, but I do believe my 52-1 is the one I enjoy best on range day.
Thank you for the knowledge. It's been difficult to track down much info on these guns because no one I know is into that style of gun and there isn't an active bullseye club around to pick any brains. I'm bidding on a 52-2 currently and will want to add a 52-1 as well just to round it all out.

Moronic take. The local DNR and ranchers will -poison- them en masse if hunters and predators don't take enough of them.

Keep showing your ignorance.
If you were a real man you would catch them and relocate them.

I will give you a list of places where you can take them and let them roam free.

New York City, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Portland, etc. Anywhere at a down town city park will let them set up colonies and live free...for a while..

We do not have them at my house but we have gophers, here is a picture of one I captured just a minute after the capture and the minute before i relocated the little guy.

I bought a s&w 669 back some time around '90 or '91 and tried to like it but never carred for the DA first trigger pull or the well rounded over rear to the grip . Iy had a real nice SA trigger but I had many years years already shooting SA only handguns but with no locked and cocked option I just cleaned the 669 up and oiled it well and it lived in my gun safe for the next 30 + years . I tried it again a few years ago when I felt 9mm might be in my future as an old man after 50 years shooting and CC'n a 45acp 1911 and the a 40sw since '90 . My wife and girls tried it but no one liked it enough to for CC duty ether and they all had double stack pistols at the time for carry so I sold it and picked up a m&p 2.0 9mm compact 4" and added a few apex upgrades and a green dot optic to it . Still don't carry a 9mm but have a good one when that time comes .

I really enjoy the Smith Semi Autos
I regularly shoot a 39 and a 59 and the 41
but recently shot the 539 and 639 659 and a 645....
and my only M&P a 40.

I'm Not really a big fan of Polymer frames, but I put an Apex trigger in this 40 and it's a great shooting gun now
the older framed semi series guns are as well-made, and dependable as anything ever produced

Shot my M&P 2.0 .45 Compact today, impulse buy, and I'm very happy with it. 10 +1 and a 14 round back up magazine. Just made for carry.

Sadly, our only local range was closed at the end of last year. The last week of December I had my 422 out. Haven't shot since. :( We are hoping that the range reopens under new competent management.

422's are an amazing little auto. I have a couple of them and they shoot extremely well. One of them wears a can most of the time.

I just did target pistol day at the range. 41, 52-1, 52-2, 952, and a model 15 revolver just to add to the mix. Mam oh man are those target pistols accurate. Even with me shooting them, they could not miss the steel at 20 yards. I decided to only shoot Bulseye style, my first attempt. I got fatigued before I ran out of ammo.
