Snagged these yesterday.

First picture is of a particularly aggressive Anna's male. His primary goal in life is to chase everything out of my yard. He eventually gets cross with my attempts to photograph him and flies to the neighbor's yard.

Next two pictures are of another male Anna's. This one is more cooperative. In the first picture he is singing. The second shows a behaviour I've never seen before, flaring the gorget feathers. I know the Costa's species does this when displaying to females, but I've never seen this with an Anna's. Makes him look crazy.

Next up is a what I'm 99% certain is a young male Black Chinned Hummingbird. He flew to the feeder next to me while I was snapping the crazy looking fella. The Anna's could not see him so no fight ensued. He eyed me up for at least a minute then decided I was no threat and had a good feed.

The last shot is one of those blind luck shots with the flash of one flying up to a feeder. It is a female of some type.

Enjoy

Very nice shots LVSteve!

Our hummingbirds have been shy so far. Usually we have a dozen or so hanging around my wife's feeders, but this year we had a rare situation where we were covered up with Baltimore Orioles in late April when the hummingbirds typically show up. We rarely see more than one or two orioles during the spring migration but this year we had dozens of them hang around for about three weeks.

During their stay we were feeding the orioles to attract them so they would stay a while and we got a lot of pictures of them that we generally to not get. Problem is, the orioles were hanging around and feeding from the hummingbird feeders and ran off the hummingbirds. Next year we're not going to be as hospitable to the orioles when they migrate through.

Nice shots as always, Steve.

I need to get my feeders out. I've only seen ruby-throats here, and they haven't been as numerous since the formerly glorious array of crepe myrtles behind my building have been nearly killed by the guy employed to mow the grass putting herbicide around the trunks to make mowing easier.

we have several feeders in the back yard. the hummers start visiting us around the first of may and they are always fun to watch....

Very good shots. Thanks for sharing

Very nice work! I guess I'm going to have to break down and buy a feeder or two and try my hand at photographing hummingbirds...I've never done it before.

Nice pictures
I wish I could use a camera good as I'm working / living in Eket, Nigeria in the oil patch.

We watch many different types of humming birds each evening while Ms. gamboolgal and I are having a sundowner sitting on the front porch. There is so many different varieties of humming birds here.

They are very pretty.
