This is my latest letter to my Federal and State Representatives:
I am writing today to ask you to oppose any legislation that is in conflict with the second amendment to the Constitution. Upon election, you took an oath. In that oath, you swore to defend the constitution at all times. Not just when it is convenient and not just when it is popular with the media or special interest groups. Whether or not you live up to that oath will speak volumes about your character and ability to represent the citizens of this country. I believe you WILL be honorable and true to your oath. I am counting on it.
We have a representative government and as one of your constituents, I am asking you to represent me. I am aware; however, that not everything you vote for or against will align with all of my (or anyone else's) personal views. That is where the Constitution comes in. Since people will always disagree, there has to be a foundational basis for decision-making. Our founding fathers designed this instrument: The Constitution.
Some might say to compromise and make concessions. There are times to do this, but you cannot do that with the Constitution. You will chip away and weaken it. The answer to these new laws is simple: "NO" No citizen is bound to follow unconstitutional laws. Do not put your constituents in a position where they need to make this decision because some politicians are too weak to stand up for the Constitution. To uphold their oath.
No only should these proposals be defeated, you should be introducing laws to restore and protect the Constitution. If not, why are you in your position? There is no part of your job that is more important. I trust that you know this.
The current proposed legislation is indefensible in its ignorance, but we need to be very clear... No restrictions on the Constitution are reasonable or acceptable.
I am counting on you to do the right thing and uphold your oath.
Respectfully
