I accompanied my friends to get his M&P last week and noticed that the new ones do not have gritty pre-travel in their triggers anymore.

Can anyone confirm that S&W has change something in their trigger systems? Did they polish the safety plunger knob?

I purchased a FS M&P 40 about 2 years ago. Purchased a 9 Compact about two weeks ago. The 9's trigger was better out of the box but I still put an Apex sear in the 40 right after I got it and an Apex DCAEK in the 9. I modified the 9 based on the results with the 40.

Just bought a FS 9 and have to say that the trigger is better out of the box than the FS 45 I bought about 6 months ago. Not a bad thing.
Best, Frank.

We're all getting "samples of one" so confirmation of a better trigger will have to wait until lots of pistols are out there. My M&P9 is now over two years old and has had professional care to create a decent trigger.

Well, the old gen M&P is confirmed by many people to have an undesirable gritty pre-travel but, the newer ones (at least, the one I tried) has a much smoother feel.

The theory is this: if nothing has changed in the manufacturing, a smooth sample cannot possibly show all of a sudden unless it was a sample that was pulled out of the production line to be hand polished and I was the lucky one to try it.:D

got my new 40 FS about three weeks ago now. The trigger was fine out of the box. No grit, no issues, (I cleaned it prior to any testing.)

I have a 2 year old M&P9 full size that I bought new and an M&P9C that I bought new about a month ago. The compact's trigger was much better out of the box than than the full size.

I had an early .40 FS that had a fair trigger, nothing to write home about (sold it to a co-worker) but my latest three, another .40 FS and a .40 compact and 9 compact have great triggers right out of the box. I can't see the Apex stuff improving these much at all, so I'll shoot them for awhile and see if the triggers get any better.

I got my 9 FS a couple of months ago, nice out of the box.

I bought a full size M&P 40 about 18 months a go and a
mid size 45 about a year ago. Both have gritty, crappy triggers that suck.
Bought a full size M&P 9 a couple of months ago and it is great.
Really a night and day difference.

Have you taken a look at the safety plunger?

It would be pretty easy to see if its been smoothed out or if it still has that hard bevel edge. My M&P9c from march 2011 still had the hard bevel.

I will when I meet with my friend again. I will ask to field strip it and take a peep on the safety plunger.

Were you able to compare the trigger with older ones?

No, I haven't been able to compare with the older M&P's but mine did definitely have the gritty trigger that people have been talking about.

What's considered latest? This year? Within the last three months?

What's the test fired date on the ones some of you have mentioned? Thanks

I just got my new M&P45 last week. The trigger did seem better than the one I got when I got my 40. But it was still not great. I put the APEX kit in and now I am happy. I will try to compare the safety plunger in the slide. I do recall when I pulled the old one out, it seemed a little more polished then the one I took out of my 40. I will try to get back to this thread later tonight when I get home on that.

The difference in the safety plunger should be immediate when you look at it. It's not just the case of one being better polished than the other. The physical shape is very different, w/ the old one having hard beveled edges and the Apex being fully rounded.

I bought the first full size (MPBXXXX) and shot about 500 or so roudns through it. I've only noticed the "grit" feel when dry firing or pulling SUPER slow to fire. Slow to the point of it messing up my firing since it's not natural to pull that slow. I've looked and I KNOW its my plunger because with the slide off it's smooth. Why not shoot more and forget about the trigger or buy a different gun if you don't like a pretty important part?

Yea looking at this again...I see no difference in my M&P 45 plunger from the others. It has the beveled edge. The APEX is certainly more polished and rounded.
