Really....is this guy for real?

Quote "McCarthy also said that judges and legislators should rely on public opinion polls when interpreting the Constitution."

Just a transparent -- and not particularly good -- attempt to shift public attention away from his department's failure to adequately serve and protect the people of Chicago, and over to an easy straw man to explain why crime is so rampant in his jurisdiction.

The amount of constitutional fail in his rambling is amazing...

How can one be law abiding and corrupt at the same time! Jesus!

This is the same guy who intends to run psychological profiles on people to determine who is likely to commit a crime and then have some interaction with them in advance of the crime, in order to prevent it.

One very scary guy who should not be in any kind of policy making or authority position, ever. I doubt he should be allowed to own a gun.

He might be interested--but probably wouldn't--in what happened here in Louisville. When KY finally became a shall-issue state, around fifteen years ago, the Louisville Courier-Journal (a great paper when held by the family that had owned it for generations, but gone to hell after being sold to Gannett) screamed bloody murder, literally: innocent blood will flow in the streets. Around a year later they did a study that surprised the hell out of them, but not us CC license-holders. They found that we, the legal carriers of concealed weapons, were arrested less often for any, offense, not just gun-related crimes, than the general population.

To their credit, they printed the report.

Didn't sound too damn corrupt to me.

Why do they continue to live there????

Sure feel sorry for the people that live in that City, along with the whole state in general. Wow

Quite frankly, I do NOT understand why gun owners continue to live there? Get the hell out of there to a friendly State and City. There is NO excuse for staying there. Put all the people that do NOT want guns there and let them go at each other. Sorry to put this so bluntly, but if the drug dealers and gangs are killing each other, then let them have at it. That many less we have to prosecute and pay for in prison.

A politically motivated Chief's talking point in order to receive some "atta boy" from his bosses. Nothing less, nothing more...

Can he explain how come millions of us were trusted during our service with the most sophisticated weapons but as civilians we will be considered as corrupt and danger to society if we want to have a simple handgun with more than 10 rounds in it?

What a joke!

The thought that this idiot is the police chief of a major city speaks volumes. I'm fast getting to the point where I think we could come up with better public officials making random selections from voter registration lists.

Not that a cram course in constitutional rights would hurt, either.

What unmitigated bull. But because he's a public official making a public statement he carries a lot more weight than us here in gun forums with a limited audience.

You are right but it is always the same story. Only us, the gun community know or hear the stories like the young kid at home alone saved himself and his little sister by shooting the intruders.

Media love to bring all anti gun high rank official's opinion upfront at every opportunity while ignoring every positive gun stories out there...

If that young kid shot his sister accidentally, instead of saving her, the whole media was going to make that story into front page headline.

But since it is a positive story about guns all you can find some reporting on Youtube where passed along us the law abiding gun owners.

We have to stop preaching to choir.

When I read something like what the Police chief wrote I cant help but think of this saying "I will take reality and substitute it for my own".

I really don't know where it came from but it fits perfectly. Between the new's media and elected official's they should adopt it as there official statement. Its obvious to anyone with a shred of common since and a tad bit of knowledge these people don't know what there talking about.

Sorry, it's just not that easy. There can be lots of reasons why it would be difficult, if not impossible, to simply move for some people.

This is the same clown that was profiled in the Newark Star Ledger (while the deal was being made for him to leave NYC and take over as the Police Director in Newark, NJ) that showed up at a police station of the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police with a carload of on-duty detectives to intimidate the locals who had stopped his daughter- guess what - he didn't get to go home that day. He was charged with obstructing a police officer.

One of those guys who opens a conversation with "do you know who I am?"
