Live on a high sandy ridge in NW FL. I have bahaia, centepede, crab and several other kinds of grass growing in my yard. I also have numerous kinds of "spring time" weeds.

I have 3 big Live Oak trees growing around my boat barn and out-building. Really dry soil under them with lots of "sticker vines".

With erosion being as bad as it is I hate to kil or pull up anything that is holding the "sand" together and not letting it wash down hill.

I'm looking for a fertilizer that will make grass grow on the sidewalk in front of the Unemployment Office. And if it kills a few weeds it might not be that bad a thing either.

thanks in advance,
SC

I depends on how sensitive your nose is. The two best fertilizers that I know of is pig manure and chicken/turkey litter.
Your wife and neighbors may not speak to you for several months.

Well, I agree about the Chicken Poop. But the nearest chicken hose to me is probably 35 miles and it's a hello of a lot of trouble even if the chicken house loads it for you.

Don't have any idea where the nearest "hog parlor" is to me. Besides, they usually wash the poop into a holding pond full of Ninja Turtles and such!

Milorganite is a natural fertilizer that is relatively inexpensive in my area. I buy it at lowes and home depot. It has no weed killing properties but you can use it as stated on the bag or you can pour the coals to it and use 3,4,5, times the amount listed. Will never ever burn your yard under any circumstances. More you put on more your yard grows. I use 1 bag on my front yard every couple weeks in the summer. It is great.

After trying Scott's, Ortho, and several other weed and feed, someone told me of LesCo. They do not sell through large retailers, but are primarily for lawn care professionals, however, will sell to individual home owners. I found a major improvement in results by using this over anything prior, found cost was competetive, so that would be my suggestion. They operate a small store front locally, and more than likely do near your home as well. With all of the traffic in front of the unemployment office at this time, I don't think much will make grass grow on the sidewalk.

I have used Lesco. It is good. You can burn your yard with it. I stand by milorganite cause you can use the snot out of it and never burn your yard. Just have to mow more.

You can buy Lesco at the Home Depot. If you go to one of the lesco outlets (might not be available in your area) you can find different formulations. Here's a link that you can plug in your zipcode... http://www.lesco.com/?PageID=2

The Depot stuff is probably all you need though. Unfortunately, sandy Florida soil doesn't have the water retention properties of other areas. If you can build up the area with compost, you'll be much better off in the long run.

I've gto 1.5 acres of "yard" so it would take a lot of building up. Will try some of the "out of the bag" stuff and see if it will help. Will try more watering this year as long as my pump holds out!

I bought Lesco granular Sevin yesterday...unfortunately, their instructions typically lack spreader settings for anything other than their own brand of spreader.

I have Scotts spreaders, both rotary and drop, and no one can give me even an approximate setting to deliver 3#/1000 sq. ft.
