Lead balls

Just finished pouring 1500 WW lead balls. 0.375”. Slingshot ammo mostly. If I can find 2” thickwall steel pipe I’ll make a hog liquifier. Stuff is dandy size for a slingshot. so hard it doesn’t deform.

Probably a type of muzzle loading cannon. Without being shoulder fired it would be problematic getting the pattern on the hog. If it is shoulder fired, it is just problematic!

Why not use the lead balls and make Claymore mines for pigs? The only problem I see is the BATF&E.

No, not shoulder fired. I can trigger it by a remote hand fob from 100 yards away. It will use a wireless transmitter/receiver pair using a 12v battery as the spark source. Actually a small magnesium wire. That setup drives my remote floodlight now. I can get thick wall square tubing but it would look weird to have a square cannon!! Maybe heat up the end and flatten it a little. That might get more horizontal coverage. Trying to figure what load to use now. Hey, some people use Tannerite!

.375 balls are just right for cap and ball 36 caliber revolvers.
That hard lead from wheel weights - not so much.

I’ve thought about that. I’m in a real remote area behind a locked gate with steep hills on three sides. The nearest house is 3/4 mile away. But, the battery will be 100’ away and will be hooked us last and will only be hooked up at night. The corn pile will be watched by a cellular game camera that will notify me when hogs arrive. I could use two setups, one coded to activate the battery and one for the trigger.

If you're that confident that those folks will never have any interest in what you are up to, you could just as easily go down to the local pawn shop and pick up six or seven cheap single-shot 12-gagues, rig up a frame to hold them in a phalanx, load em with double-ought, and rig your remote to fire them one at a time. . . . . OR - let 'em all rip at once - that is, if you are determined to have sausage instead of ham.

Aren't hogs considered an epidemic of vermin and hunting regulations don't apply? I figger the Hog Liquifier would be considered a destructive device, but if hogs were ruining your farm land, wouldn't the HL be a solution (although illegal)?

That would depend on individual states. In FL, hogs on public lands fall under state hunting regulations and limits. Hogs on private land are the land owners' property to do with whatever he wishes. A "set-gun" may fall under other laws though, regardless of use or intent.

Mikeinkaty- you better check to see if what you're doing is legal!. You don't want any trouble from the FEDS. Why not just hunt them fair-chase?

p.s. I enjoy waterfowl hunting, but I'm not going to mount a "Punt Gun" on the front of my boat just to shoot more.

I’m just tired of not being able to shoot more at one a time. Shooting at night does not allow me to get a 2nd shot.

Some time back I set up a remote cell phone activated gate on a pen. Got it built and tested then the hogs disappeared for 6 months. By the time they came back AT&T had quit using 2G technology rendering my GSM relay useless.

I did pick up a 3G relay couple of months ago but AT&T will probably kill 3G in 2019. If I did use the 3G relay I’d have to get a simm card for it.

This is in Oklahoma by the way. The only requirement is that I call the local game warden and let him know if I’m going to be shooting at night during deer season. Other than that he said “kill all the *******s you can”.

I sometimes get snide remarks about using my beloved (and stupidly accurate) .375H&H on deer and hogs. Now you have shown me a means to turn it into a "Texas Squirrel Gun."

I do think the ATF is OK with muzzle-loading black powder cannons. Solid shot, canister, no matter.

Might want to look into the means of triggering the cannon so as not to get athwart any ATF minutia that results in a tour of the Graybar Hotel.

Also, if everything is legal, I would post signs around it. AT least "NO TRESSPASSING" and maybe others.

And, yeah, be super-careful about radio-initiated stuff.

I believe a set gun is one where the animal triggers the firing mechanism. He is planning to trigger it himself. I have read the BATF regs on Cannons and muzzle loaders etc. No prohibitions on them being electrically fired.

Saw a video where guys stacked up a bunch of tannerite and feed and blew up a whole bunch of pigs at once.
