Anyone else have trouble with the disks not throwing the amount of powder by weight that the Lee manual states? I was loading some AA #2 the other day and the manual said the .37cc disk hole would throw I think it was 4.1g of AA #2. I checked it with two different scales and was only getting 3.5g on one and 3.6g on the other. Noticed this with other powders too but not this far out. Seem like they always throw less.

As a rule I always use the next larger auto disc hole to the one on the chart of where I'm looking to go.

So if this chart says that the .49 disc will throw 4.0 grains of VV N320, I use the .53 disc to start and measure that.
And it usually comes out to about 4.0 gr (for this example).

I have done this for about 8 different powders, so it seems they are consistently cautious with their recommendations.

With a thrower the weights may vary but what is thrown will be pretty consistent. Smokeless powder is hygroscopic so depending on the humidity where you live variances in weight will be reflected by the amount of water your powder retains. Humid climates will throw heavier charges with a thrower than arid climes.

Some powder are right on, some are off by several grains sometimes. In the manual and instructions it explains this and you need to determine the VMD factor of your individual powder. Or just trial and error. Once I find the correct charge hole, I write that disc number on my box of reloads along wuth the bullet, powder, OAL etc. That way I do not need to try and find it again. I can not remember exactly but I think Blue Dot was way, way off. Hp 38 is within .2 grs.

I've used an Auto Disk for years and this seems to be a common characteristic with it. Throw the accompanying chart away and use a digital scale to check the charge weights. Mine has always thrown charges pretty consistently, but go by the chart and you'll always be under charged.

Unique and 2400 are way off. However, if you look at the row for Green Dot, the Unique throws seem to match that one.

Bullseye matches the chart.

Power Pistol is right on until you start getting above 10 grains of powder, then it starts throwing light compared to the chart.

Universal, HP-38 (231), HS-6, H-110 match the chart exactly (within .1g).

Trailboss matches until above 6.0 grains, then it throws light in the larger cavities.

For the ones that don't throw according to the chart (like 2400 especially, which doesn't seem to obey any rule), I just use the adjustable charge bar, along with the scale, to get the charge I want.

That said, once dialed in, my Auto Disk throws very consistently from one charge to the next.
