Mine are long gone. Anybody know how/where I can get the complete set with charging tables? Are they still made?

They're even on sale!

The dippers are what I use quite a bit, especially on small quantities of "experiments".

They are easy to use by "roughing" in the approximate weight and then "trickling" it up to the desired weight. The trickling process looks similar to this.

Just tap the dipper with your index finger and small amounts will drop into the scale pan.

Handy, but no replacement for scales. A bad idea to use alone on maximum charges.

Are you aware that powder is actually energy dependent on total surface area? Do You also know that Bench Rest shooters throw all their charges by volume/ Coincidentally I have held the Colorado record for the smallest light varmint rifle group fired at 100 yards, 0.078 for 5 shot group. Call it Karma. Hope this helps.

A comment from Benchrest Central forums.
The short range guys mostly use high end throwers with small kernal powders that measure out very good with a little practice. Some do set up a scale to see what volume changes may have occured if they're trying to hit a specific load, but most the powders being used in 6ppc's can't really be dangerously overcharged and the shooter gets used to seeing the powder come so far up the neck and he knows he's in the ballpark. From there, it's a little testing and shooting in the warm up match or on practice day to fine tune things for the particular range and conditions.

These same high end throwers (I use a Harrells) don't throw near as accurate when you start loading large kernal powders typically used in long range rifles. So most charges are thrown and then trickled up to an exact weight at home and then brought to the match. However, a few guys do load for 1000 yard matches at the range. I have used my RCBS Chargemaster for the job and it has worked great so long as I kept it leveled and out of the wind. But typically, long range calibers stay in their "node" better than 6ppc's and pre loaded ammo works just fine unless drastic temperature changes are encountered.
I hear way too many comments on the Acculab balance, that's capable of .02 gr (.001 g) accuracy, being used to accept a blanket statement of benchrest shooters throwing their powder charges. They may, if all they're going to use is ball powder, but too many use extruded powder for shooting at longer ranges.

Exactamundo! Kudos for the succinct explanation. I was frightened I would have to compose. I could never have done it in so few words and conveyed so much Honto Info! I know from my own experience that you know of what you speak.

Buy two or three sets of the dippers. You can than modify them by sanding down some of them to make slight adjustments to the volume. I have done that on several and made my own from empty brass. Double check them on a scale and they are a very handy, fast way to charge a lot of cases. I adapt them to not be able to go over maximum even if it is a heaping scoop. If you use a straight edge over the top, they are very accurate. You need to check the stated volume in the book or chart with a scale as some of the powders are not exactly correct.

Babarracing,

I still have the dippers; send me an e-mail with your street address, and I will get them out to you... gratis.

bkward@cox(dot)net

That is if you still want them...

Regards,

sorry. I am glad to know they are still available. But my Mommy told me not to take candy from strangers. Thanks for the kind offer though.

Ummm... OK... just trying to do something nice for someone on the board.

You did place a wanted to buy notice for the dippers on this board, and I offered them to you for free... would it make you feel better if I charged you for them?

Whatever floats your boat... no skin off my nose either way...

No your first email did not give your S&W forums user id it was not included in your first e-mail. So I being computer ignorant did not know if it was someone fishing for a probable gun owners street address. Prudence is why I never put NRA or NBRSA or insured by S&W bumper stickers on my vehicles. Why advertise. I really d appreciate your offer. But I am unfamiliar with this website or any website in general for that matter. SOOO I did not know you were a member. Just niavite sure wish I knew how to spell that word.

OK, no problem, lets try this again...

If you get me an address to which you would like the dippers shipped (doesn't have to be your home address, could be work, or Mailboxes etc., anywhere you feel comfortable). And I will get them out to you.

I know that there are a lot of scammers out there, and I would never put my home address on a public forum either, but in a private e-mail... well, you have to trust someone eventually.

You can send the shipping information to me any way you like, I want you to be comfortable...

Sorry if I came across as caustic earlier...

No problemo. You ddn't come across as caustic. As Joe Friday would say those were "just the facts Ma'am; just the facts."
