leg drop holster

If you want to draw extra attention to yourself I would highly recommend that style of holster.

Wear a Baclava or pantyhose over your face when you use that holster.

Yeah, folks would be so shocked to see you with pastry all over your face they'd never notice the gun!;)

Seriously, you'd look like some kind of mall ninja running around with that rig for open carry.
Also, Leapers gear is garbage.

I believe that I would rather be caught carrying in a pink fanny pack with Jane Fonda's picture on it.

Don't do it.

jagen, i would seriously advise against buying/wearing one of these holsters.
They are made for SWAT, and Military purposes. I used one many times in the Navy. They are designed for use when you have many other tools on your belt. Also, they are not comfortable.
For OC, you don't want to be seen with this thing out in public.
If i saw someone carrying with one of these in public...well, i don't want to say what i'd be thinking, but i'd keep my distance.

UTG is not known for quality gear; it's the choice of the Airsoft crowd and the "mall ninjas." Leg drop carry is a pain; despite what you see on TV, it's not a choice of those who carry for real. Sometimes you have to carry that way, i.e., body armor, but it's never been my first choice.

When I worked SRT and had to use one on raids, it was a pain in the butt. Unstable, hard to run, always wanted to move around on my leg, hard to sit down, it caught on stuff, & etc etc. Unless you are wearing hard body armor and carrying lots of tools and long gun mags, and a long gun, they are an epic FAIL.

If you decide to wear one of these holsters, you'll probably also want to be sure to pick up one of those nice and shiny CCW badges to wear on your belt at the same time.:D

I dont open carry, but if I did, I would a carry pearl handled single action 45 and wear a velvet pimp outfit and drive a car like "Huggy Bear" from Starsky and Hutch. But that is just me.

Holsters

Ok my two cents...drop legs are a pain in the behind...but they do have their place...I used one while on SRT and while deployed to Iraq in 05-06...I did however switch to a torso carry on my armor and simple belt slide when I wasn't wearing armor. I am not sure about your state's laws for open carry, but would guess that it has a clause in it that says something to the effect that outer clothing can't in any way shape or form conceal or partially conceal or cause a person to think that you may possibly have a concealed firearm. If that is the case, I would look to Blackhawk and their Serpa drop leg. I have one and while again they are a pain, it is the best one that I have come across. Just remember whatever you decided to go with, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

As a retired LEO (30 yrs.) I recommend AGAINST open carry for two reasons. (1) It will draw unwanted attention from LEO when citizens call 911; and (2) You surrender whatever tactical advantage you might have with a concealed gun (e.g., the bad guys will shoot you first).

Please reocnsider your options. BTW I too have experience with leg drop holsters and recommend against them.

Most of the time a drop leg rig sucks.
the only time it you can get away with it is on a back country blastathon where no one will see you and no one will care.
As open carry goes your better off with a more conventional hip holster where many just assume you are a plain wrapped LEO, which affords you a good amount of peace, without the impersonation thing to bite you.
Better still is a good IWB rig .. out of sight .. out of mind ... and out of trouble.

For open carry you need a revolver with ivory grips (maybe fake ivory) and a floral tooled threepersons holster. Larry

OK... :D:D:D
I'll go along 'wit that>>>One from the " Dark Side" 2 1/2" Python..'wit real Ivory..:D

wanting a leg drop holster for when i open carry. this one is a bit cheaper than some others. anyone with experience with this style have pointers on what to avoid or should i just go with hip?

Open carry where; at a Cornfield Commando Convention?

You need to rethink this one IMHO. Open carry if you like but this isn't the holster for it for a couple of reasons:

1) you might actually need your gun and it wont be where you need it. It will be way down on your leg. Holsters like this are for people who's primary weapon is a long gun and Joe Citizen doesn't walk around with an AR at the ready. His primary weapon is his handgun.

2) Anyone dressed in street clothes wearing one of these rigs is going to look ridiculous at best and a menace to public safety at worst. Or both.

Please don't do it.

I been to two hangin's, a buffalo ropin', a hunderd windmill pulls, and I ain't never seen anything like that!!!

Keep lookin'!!;)
