Small city 1.5 hours South of Seattle. Husband and wife detect a home intruder. Intruder is confronted by armed husband. Intruder lunges at husband and intruder is shot. (non-fatal)

In his press conference the head of the local law enforcement agency said the following.
- we can't be there when you need us the most so everyone should be prepared to defend their life and property.

- the only things I think the homeowner could have done better was to shoot sooner, more often, and to use a higher grade ammunition!:):):):):)

Dead men tell no lies.
I hope this family doesn't have to go thru the time, anguish and expense of a criminal investigation or a civil trial.

Do that in Canada or England, and you will face decades in prison for simply defending your and your family's lives.

There are no shootings or any other violence either here in Europe. We are a peaceful continent with peaceful people, you know. We invented Communism if you need any further proof.

There are pretty significant civil and criminal defenses in Washington under facts such as these. The odds of a negative legal experience for the homeowner are very slight at most.

Only problem is the fact that the intruder survived.
Now with a good shyster Lawyer the homeowner can be sued for personal injury.
Like my Dad used to say, "shoot him again, he's still breathing."

I'd tell you that you missed, shoot him again and see if he doesn't twitch.

Well, my wife's home defense trainer (who was also a woman) used the following story to make that point.

Seems a woman shot an intruder five times, leaving him alive but incapacitated.

When the police arrived later, one of them asked why she had shot the man five times!

Her reply was, "...because I didn't have six rounds!!"

That was the lesson for that week's class :D

An instructor of mine was asked, "How many times should I shoot someone in a self-defense situation?". His reply: "How many rounds does your gun hold?"

It's all grins and giggles until you actually have to do it. I assure you, the fun is all over then.

I've had people ask me at the range why I shoot so much and use the moving targets. I always say : "It's the best training you can get and yet hope that you will never need".

For those wanting more info about what we face in Canada related to these issues, here is a summary of a recent case where a homeowner used a firearm to defend his home (didn't actually shoot anyone). He pretty much went through hell (over 2 years in court), but in the end he won (will get his guns back - that's right they took all of them not just the one used in the incident), but was left with big legal bills.

Protect your rights. The one thing you south of the border have in your favor is a larger number of people who are concerned with protecting themselves. While many Canadians pride themselves on being a peacful people, most are naively convinced that nothing bad will ever happen to them, so protecting themselves and their rights is not something they spend a lot of time worrying about. That makes it easier for governments to impose restrictions and make your life hell, and harder for the small groups who do care to fight for it.

This went around face book a little while back,

Whether or not you believe in God is your decision, and whether you are for the 2nd amendment or not is your right. But I am willing to bet that if somebody comes in to your home and threatens your family, you will call someone with a gun and pray to God that they get there in time!
