Went to a high school basketball game last night. Walked in and saw the Sheriff leaning in the doorway to the gym. Carrying the coolest weapon I've seen on a LEO in years. A revolver!

Not just any revolver either....a Dan Wesson .357 Magnum, 4" Blued!!! Sheriff also had no bat belt going on. No radio, no baton, no pepper spray, no taser. Just looked clean and simple. Back to Mayberry.

A little while later, a deputy came in, and he too was carrying a revolver, but this time a S&W. Didn't get time to ask him what it was.

Even the armored car guys are carrying semi's around here. In a large city a LE rookie probably has never shot a revolver unless one of his relatives had one. I always look to see what LE/security people are carrying.
 
There's some old school LEO's here on the forum that still carry revolvers. I wear my 586 L-Comp on occasion, usually to court or if I'm working a social function, my rig is very simple, just the basics. For instance, I'll be working the annual town meeting in a couple of weeks, I'll wear it then.

I know at least one of our local court officers wears a Smith Model 15, and I think the other is carrying a 4-inch 586. One of the local counties up here in NY was the last to do away with the wheelguns, they were armed with Taurus 608's. If it were my choice, say as those Court Officers, I would go out and get me a Highway Patrolman.
 
I recently saw the USMC Silent Drill Team perform. It was a fantastic performance. Noticed they used beautiful M1 rifles and they handled them with precision. It was awesome to see them used for ceremonial purposes, but it wouldn't be my weapon of choice on the modern battlefield.

Oh, we were talking about revolvers, weren't we.
 
We will have to ask Dave Keith to put on a fashion show. He is a pretty dapper dresser when he goes to court.:)

I'd rather have the M1 or it's derivative the M-14 than any of the peashooters that are standard for our troops today. Word is that some M-14's are being brought out of mothballs because it's been found the 223 just doesn't have the "reach" of the older 30 calibers.

BTW, had the opportunity to see the Marine drill team up close when I was a we lad courtesey of an Uncle who was a USN Captain Ret. Didn't really notice the weapons but the precision was just stunning and the uniforms were much more impressive than Navy Blues. My uncle just about popped a cork when I asked him why Navy uniforms were so dull.
 
I worked the GULF COAST WINTER CLASSICS HORSE SHOW last night which runs from Feb 9 to March 1. All of of sudden I notice a guy next to me bending over looking at my sidearm. (Not PC to say Weapon) He asks what it is and what caliber. I tell him it's a 686 357. Then the questions really start coming. Lots of times I have been asked to unload it so they can handle it. Sometimes I take Silver Tip out of my pocket and show them that the wife even lets me carry a bullet. Always get a laugh. Once I felt a tug on my side and and grabbed a little kids hand who was trying to pull the gun. Makes your heart beat a little faster for a second.

I use a level 3 mid ride holster canted forward and the gun is between my wrist and elbow. I can protect it better with my arm than a holster down below my belt.

I am asked what is in those two little pouches on the front of my belt.

It ain't a party til someone's wearing cuffs!;)

It was made by Rudy at Black Hills Leather, he does vey nice work. I also had him make a matching 1911 holster and double mag pouch.

I guess for a few more months I'm still considered a rookie and I work in a big city. I own 4 revolvers, though I technically can't carry any of them. Go easy on us city kids.
 
Around here most leos have Glocks. I am sure they are a great functioning firearm, but thet are butt ugly.

I carry my Model 58 on duty....get a lot of comments on it as well...
Just got some new basketweave leathergear from Looper Leather too.....I am out of town now, but as soon as I can I will get some pics up.
If you lawmen want to carry a wheelgun, Looper is the place to get it from. Even got them to make us some moonclip holders for my 22-4 if I want to carry it on duty as well....
 
My little brother has been a reserve officer for 20 years, and still carries his 686.
 
We have an armored car co around here that carries Ruger GP-100's. Nice to see a revolver for a change.

I don't rightly know what dapper means...;)



But, after a couple lustrums of service to the Courts.

I weathered my time within the halls of justice with the greatest of glee.
As I was well armed to make sure the accused was not, ya see.

keith44spl, you must live on the north side of the red to have that good of taste in leather and steel.:D That rig with the .44 is stunning!
 
Our department carries the Glock 21. Personally I would love to be able to carry my Model 57 and be done with it.
 
The security company I work for has been talking about getting us the training and converting to an "armed security" site. Rather it will happen, remains to be seen, but in the course of discussion they did say we would be allowed to carry personal sidearms as long as they of the type the state allows security guards to carry. I've debated which I'd carry if I could, and although I'd like to carry one of my revolvers, to tell you the truth, I'd hate to beat one up getting in and out of a patrol car, going through doors, sitting at a desk, etc.

I think I'd use my Sigma. Who cares if a plastic gun get's scratched?
 
I made a run to Barnes Hospital in St Louis Friday . Their security department is DPS certified like any other law enforcement agency.I was surprised (and pleased) to see all their officers carrying 4inch Smith&Wesson revolvers in their duty rigs. Being in downtown St Louis they use them too. I rolled in there at midnight one night and the whole ambulance entrance was cordoned off due to security having just shot and killed a man.
 
I love my revolvers too, especially the Python and L-Comp. But I agree with CajunBass, I carry Glocks and a SIG 220. Because I bang into a lot of things while working, and the Glocks just take the abuse and laugh. I gotta say the finish on the Glocks is almost impervious to the abuse I give it. Even the SIG is scratched and pitted, the Glocks look brand new except for around the corners on the muzzle showing holster wear.

Can't imagine doing that to the Python!

But I do carry the wheelguns out to dinner with wifey and such on nice events. That is when the Kimber 1911 and the Springfield EMP see use as well.

Gents, not tryin' to pick a fight here but I look at "Honest wear" on guns the same as I do people. A life of work and service brings scars and wrinkles. Both of which should be respected and admired.;)

Some days you've just got to carry a S&W revolver. These are currently in service on the lakes and back country I get to patrol. The 45 Colt Mountain Gun is one of my favorites, with the 627 8 shooter gaining ground. My duty gear isn't nearly as good looking as those shown in this post. Just black Bianchi cordura stuff, due to the boating environment they work in.
