Hello to everyone! I feel like I'm sending in a postcard from the edge.

I've been working 60+ hours a week doing home health care here in Florida, rotating shifts during the week. The work is long and tiring but the real benefit is meeting some truly wonderful people who are in their 80s and 90s.

Some of the men I have met and worked for have been military pilots in WWII. Not only have their stories touched me with interest, but their continued bravery and stoicism is unmatched in most of the younger generations.

While doing some research on a WWII bomber, I happened upon a website and thought I would share it with you. 7 Lessons in Manliness From the Greatest Generation | The Art of Manliness The articles are great! You just never know when a little manly knowledge will come in handy. How to Break Down a Door: An Illustrated Guide | The Art of Manliness

Hi Barb, We sure have a lot of old timers here. I have several accounts at assisted living facilities. I've met a few survivors that have given me a whole different outlook. One Merchant Marine I met that was on a prisoner transport bringing captured Germans to the states when the war was declared over. He said they weren't sure what they were going to do. So many stories if you take the time to listen. We have a vast resource here in Fla. and it's a good thing to access it while it"s still with us.

Added, When you look in their eyes you see what they're telling you and you know there's no word of a lie.

My Grandfather once told me that a Soldier was a man that fought so he could go home, a Hero was man that fought so everyone could go home. I sure miss that mean old man.

I've been following that site for a year and think it's just great. Many subjects on there used to be common rites of passage, now just novelties to this digital age. Sad.

Thanks Barb, now I know where Sip steals his postings for facebook. Great read!
Actually Sip steals most of his material but don't tell anybody.:D

Thanks Barb, great read.
I worked with a gentleman that fought in the Battle of the Bulge. One of the few that survived. He was the kindest man and quietly shared his stories. I'll never forget what's his name.

My wife has worked at a retirement community for 32 years and I know it has shaped her outlook on life by meeting members of "the greatest generation." I always told her to tell any former Marines she meets to give them a loud, "Semper Fi, sir!" ... she says they always get a big smile on their face and tell her where they served, usually in the South Pacific.
Some of the stories that she hears at work are truly amazing. Nowadays, most people do not appreciate the sacrifices made by previous generations to make America what it is today.
