I think we need to step back, take a deep breath and see how this plays out. There is still a Republican house and there are many Dems who represent very pro gun districts and pro gun states who have to face the voters. Gun owners are not exactly in the minority either. I have seen estimates of 300-500 million guns in the US alone. I think I have read where 60% + of all households own at least one gun, maybe even a higher percentage.

Unless obama has declared himself Czar I think that he has to follow some sort of rules. And again there are a lot of folks that must face voters, ask for re election money etc.

We may take some hits but lets support the NRA, let the representatives know that this was as bad as it gets but if someone flips out and wants to do harm they are going to find a weapon somewhere no matter what you ban. Focus on the true root cause. I have grand kids too and I know that it must really hurt but step back and don't over react.

The thing is, the "gun controls" proposed like those by Feinstein, for example, which include an assault weapons ban and magazine capacity limits aren't effective, and neither of which would have prevented this tragedy. The shooter had handguns with him, and while there have been conflicting reports as to whether he used a rifle or the handguns, if he had a hand gun with multiple 10 round magazines, he still could have committed this atrocity.

The only answer is looking at WHY these nut cases kill, and not focusing on the tools they use to do so. McVeigh killed many more people with a bomb made from fertilizer, so the motive and/or mental state of killers is the issue that needs to be addressed, not the tool.

I take it on faith that all of us, whether parents or not (I'm a 65-year old grandfather) felt devastated Friday when we heard about the children being murdered.

I went home after work and had a stiff drink (two actually). This morning I went to church and prayed.

Tonight I just emailed the Speaker of the House and I will be contacting my Congressman Eric Cantor, the Majority Leader, to let them know that while I do support examination of measures to combat school shootings, I lean toward better mental health treatment and physical security at schools as most likely to do some good.

Let's not just oppose gun control, let's offer up some ideas to our representatives that might really help solve the problem!

I'd like to hope that there would be rational discussion of this incident. However, that would require the setting aside of anti-gun phobias and the proper utilization of both interest and intellect. I don't see any of that displayed in any meaningful quantity by the current crowd of legislators.

Just look at the mess our elected officials have made of so many things in this country and ask yourself if there is really any chance for anything to be handled in a rational manner.

I stopped at the local gun store this afternoon. It was a mad house. Their stock of ARs was down by half. I have never seen the racks in that store be so empty. Here is the quote of the day that I overheard at the store:

"Those people in California are sipping their Latte's while people in Tennessee are buying guns..."

I am probably going to sound like an *** but wont be the first time or the last but I try to put my self in the parents shoes and the family's I would gladly give up every gun I own if it would bring back one child that died but it wont and I got to tell you I would not be running out to buy an ar 15 and I never will but I do believe in the right to keep and bear arms and always will.Just my 2 cents.

Actually it's been nuts in all the LGS ever since the election here and it's probably worse now. Of those in the crowd I say maybe 2/3 to 3/4 have ZERO clue to firearms, either A) completely clueless which scares me by their complete lack of gun handling ability or B)A keyboard commando wanting a tacticool AR. I've been avoiding them even though I want some rimfire ammo and they're the only ones that have have any in stock.

I just wish for once they would pin the blame on the person committing the act instead of trying to blame an inanimate object. Some are talking about the mental health side but not near enough of them.

Think what this guy could have done with a gallon of gas and a bunch of wine bottles. It is not the weapon but the person using it.

There are a lot of unstable people walking around who should not be. Of course the other side of this is for them to claim that anyone with more than 1 gun is unstable and lock all of us up.

Don't forget that this is the president who's first chief of staff said it is a shame to waste a crisis.

I actually had to turn the news off in disgust last night because I did not have the emotional fortitude to listen to the all-too-predictable special reports on "eeeeeeevil assault weapons."

Paper currency is loaded into armored vehicles with armed guards protecting it. It's just paper, yet it has armed security in basically a rolling safe. Our children NEED to be protected in the same fashion. Bullet proof doors and windows. Surveillance cameras on all doors to be monitored at all times. Visitors MUST pass through a full body scan and be escorted by security. A pair of armed guards (Concealed carry) to switch off every hour on the monitors as watching monitors would be come tedious fast if one had to do it for 8 hours straight. These measures would add to the tax burden of everyone, but would also create thousands of jobs (more taxpayers and reduced unemployment) for making security doors and windows ,scanners, installers, guards and people to train the guards. Becoming a guard or giving training to new guards seems like a great job for some of our returning veterans.

This will all come down to American gunowners and if theyll allow this manipulation to happen.

Odds of being struck by lightening are higher than being involved in a mass shooting. 54 people every year - on average - are killled by lightening strikes. An even higher number are struck by lightening, but survive. We don't run around demanding that laws be enacted "to protect us" from lightening, do we ? That would be obviously ridiculous to just about everybody.

Awhile ago, there was talk of a possible push to force Americans to take some vaccine. Remember that ? There was talk that it was a 'grave public health issue'. All of that was a lie.
There was talk that people might be forced to take the vaccine, it was practically 'a matter of national security'. The majority of Americans refused to comply. The whole thing dropped like a lead balloon and went nowhere. Thats the way it is with b.s. and lies. Later the drug companies tried to get rid of the stuff overseas. No one over there wanted it either.

Will Americans be manipulated sheep . . . or free men & women ? Will they take the effort to inform others . . . or not ?

Will they Think . . . or just react emotionally to the propaganda ?

feel a bit of trepidation ? While i hope and pray for the best
i do not feel at all safe that my firearms and related freedoms
will not be trampled upon by this current crisis and the media
blitz it has created. I fear for all of us who hunt and shoot.
Will my grandkids be allowed the same freedoms i grew up
enjoying? Hunting or just taking a rifle out to do some plinking
without being made to feel like a felon or outcast by society.
I agree we should not be in a panic mode just yet but we
should do everything in our power to let our voices, (which seem
to be the only voices of reason right now) be heard by those
who wish to take these freedoms and rights we hold so dear.
