Am I weird because I like the stock S&W target and presentation grips? I'll admit if I am going to shoot a lot I'll put on a set of Pachymars but for visual appeal I'll take factory targets or presentation grips every time
That is a hard act to follow, @rubiranch. Especially the 640-1 with the combat grips. I have been gradually replacing the mixed bag of grips on my revolvers with factory grips. If and when I can find something close, it is usually thanks to other forum members and the classifieds, and occasionally ebay.
My Model 67 with smooth target grips, acquired separately here earlier this year (and much apreciated btw). According to the SCSW book, the smooth Goncalvo Alves target stocks with "extractor relief cut" were used from 1967 to about 1980, so they are period correct for the Model 67 which dates to 1972.
Below my 60-1, with banana grips, probably 1980's vintage.
This was the first time I used the S&W banana grips on a J-Frame and they feel much better than I expected.
Factory J Frame "Banana" grips, compared to aftermarket grips by Karl Nill (Germany) and Altamont (US). Nill grips on a Model 60, Altamont grips on a 642, still under 15 oz with the grips.
Hmmm... I think I came here for a reason today before I got distracted... again,
The 629 with the round bottom grips is mine and the Rossi 720 with the target grips belongs to the wife.
The 629 with the flat-bottom grips (round to square conversion) are the first set I bought for that pistol - fired about 50 rounds at the range with those grips and changed them out. They just didn't fit my hand, especially my middle finger which kept impinging on the trigger guard (painfully). They are Altamonts with Spanish checkering and silver medallions and I love the look of them but not the shape in my hand so I am looking to sell them.
