Most of the time I shoot, carry and just enjoy the 4" guns. But during the fall, when I really want to reach out and touch something (hard). I go for the long toms, the 7 1/2" or 8 3/8" guns. These guns are usually very accurate and get the most out of your powder. They are also easier to hit with compared to the shorter guns. I really enjoy range time with the 8 3/8" target sighted guns and I know some of you guys do too. Here is my current line up.
629 no dash, -1 and -2
629-6 classic DX and 629-6 classic with 2X Leupold scope.
Two from the PC shop 629-6 light hunter and 629-7 magnum hunter
And one photo from the deer stand
Show'em if you got'em

This is my M27-3 with 8 3/8" barrel. It was a safe queen and probably didn't have a full box of ammo through it when I got it. Came with the original box and all the original paperwork except for the original Bill of Sale.I don't shoot this as often as my other pistols just because I know I'd feel terrible if I scratched it up. Still, I do shoot it often enough to enjoy it.

Model 57-1

My first and only 8 3/8 inch barreled Smith and Wesson right now. It came with the the original box, cleaning tools, and paperwork. I got it a few months ago on an impulse (partly because it was in amazing condition and partly because my collection is severely lopsided towards shorter barreled revolvers, and I wanted to start diversifying) and the minute I held it in my hands for the first time, I decided that I definitely needed to start adding more long barreled pieces to my collection!

You must have a little more time on your hands nowadays Chris! Great looking group pics. Here's my few.
The 8 3/8" 500. BTW, the Hogues are for Sunday go to church only.:D

My latest purchase, an 8 3/8" 629-3

An 8 3/8" 629-1

I know these aren't 8'ers but they ain't snubbies either!
A 6 1/2" 629-3 Classic

And finally, a 6" 629-1

I agree. When it comes to pure shooting the 'Long Toms' win hands down! My 8 Inchers are a 53, 48-2, 27-2, 57, 29-2, and a 25-5. They are a bit unwieldy when just driving around town however. Holstered while on the 4-wheeler riding around the farm they are great.

Its let up just a little.
That 500 looks like a handful with the wood, I'd like to try it...lol
Your 629's are looking sweet, the new -3, 8 3/8" is gorgeous.
I think I've got a 6 1/2" classic myself, might have 2 of them?
Have you shot yours much?
No luck today, if it wasn't for the boys deer I'd be having track stew instead of fresh back straps!

Chris

No stew for me! A "Hells Bells" burger and a coupla Sam Adams Winter Lager at the local watering hole. The Classic is arguably the best shooter of the bunch. I scrounged up some rubber Hogues for the square butts so hopefully they'll be more comfortable at the range. I'm working on shaving down some Millett scope rings for the dash 3 8"er. We'll see what happens there. Stay warm brother! It's even cold here in Atl!!

Keep us updated on the scope ring mods. S&W no longer stocks these rings and Millet doesn't offer them either. I've been told standard Millet Weaver rings can't be machined to work, but I don't know if that's true.

I believe there are quit a few of these older Smiths with the broached barrel that have become separated from their rings. If a method could be found to modify currently available rings, that would be nice to know.

I for one, for a traditional magnified optic, prefer this mounting method - with the scope over the barrel - to the current method of mounting to the top strap. For one thing, it let's you keep the rear sight in place on the gun.

I'll play! I have always had an affinity for the long barrels.

My 460, takes two men and a boy to hold it up!
