Lets talk about J-Frame Grips......

Here's my scandium j frame. The finish got so bad on it I had it coated Marine Corp red. The Ergo grips are terrific and very comfortable even if they look weird. I can make hits with it and that's what counts. It lives in the leather pocket holster which is why the finish wore so badly.

J Frame Grips

I have a model 36 round butt that came w/ wood grips but they were uncomfortable when shooting so we replaced them with Hogue rubber grips much like some of the pictures but they were designed in the three finger style instead of two finger as many that were shown. They are very comfortable and are not so big as to interfere w/ concealed carry. My wife and I love them.

Another vote for the Taurus boot grips......as pictured by chp, in post #90. Nylon instead of rubber, so not sticky or overly squishy. Well made - even have alignment pins molded in (to keep the two halves aligned with each other). Cheap - $9.00 on the Taurus website. Absorb recoil very well. The shape is nearly perfect for my hand.

Since I stay with synthetic grips on J-frame sized revolvers (for carry and recoil reasons).....these are the ticket (for me). Best I've ever found.

I recently picked up this older Model 36 with factory banana grips; I was surprised as to how good they feel and how well the revolver points with them. Probably not the best if you are trying to conceal it though.

642 Performance Center Grips

I really like the grips that come on the 642 Performance Center Talo Edition. I found that they sell this grip at Altamontco Grips. They are the best feeling, hand fitting grips I have on any of my J Frames. Altamont Company

My 442 currently wears ERGO Delta grips. They look strange and it takes a few seconds to accustom oneself to the feel. 5 yard accuracy is as before -- never great with a 10 lb. trigger pull, but adequate. And these grips do eliminate the trigger guard smack on the middle finger's second knuckle, a big problem for me. After 50 rounds or so the webbing of the hand does get a little sore from the hard backside of the grip. It is still a work in progress.....

I can't stand any of the stock grips on a j frame. I feel like I have to bend my right thumb so far down to keep it out of the way of pulling the trigger, that it doesn't work. Or you stick it forward underneath the cylinder and that makes me nervous.

I bought the Hogue Tamer grips and they feel like they were made for my hand and make the gun feel like a different gun. I IWB strong side and never carry in a pocket, so the size isn't an issue. I know they help with felt recoil too.

Another vote for the Uncle Mike's Boots,but the new factory rubber boots are good too. If you want wood take a look at the offerings from VZ Grips. The checking is very aggressive and it sure won't slip around in your hand. I like the black cherry myself.

Blu Mag makes an excellent grip for the J Frames. They are concealable but most of all if you shoot the J frames they offer comfort in the recoil department. The backstrap is covered which puts the trigger finger in a better position for fast double action shooting. They also allow the hammer to be cocked for single action long range work. I cannot post pictures but I believe the web site has a picture of them.

Altamont Rosewood, Sambar stag, Uncle Mike rubber boot grips. I recently got a pair of Hogue cocobolo checkered grips and are beautiful and feel good. Don't have a picture. I am waiting for a call from Craig Spegle to get some of his boot grips.

What is this?
It is not often I am so stumped.

It's a pocket holster of sorts, I believe it is sized for cargo pockets. It may not be legal in some areas because the weapon can be fired without removing it from the holster.

These are my favorite, they're Altamont smooth walnut. They look great and fit perfect. I prefer this style over the factory style rubber. I can get four fingers around the grip, no pinky hanging on the bottom. Don't think I saw these on here yet.

I have a 642 and a 442 both with Crimson Trace Laser grips. Not as pretty as some of those wooden grips but very practical for a carry gun. I only use these guns as concealed carry guns and only shoot them often enough to be somewhat proficient with them.
