It occurs to me the special order was placed by the same entity to whom the gun was shipped-----at least that's my recollection of those which were in my collection. My collection was targets---from the beginning through to the mid 1950's. The split was about 60% pre-war, 40% post; and a good quarter to a third of the pre-war were shipped to individuals---and a significant number of those were special orders.
That said, one of them (a Straight Line) apparently shipped to an individual turned out to be what I have come to call an example of "Shipping Clerk Shorthand". It was shipped to "G. Ward Hasner (no address available)"----an individual who I supposed was a famous target shooter of the time. Alas, I could not find a single word about him whatever!
Time passed, until one day when I was doing nothing even remotely akin to this gun, or that famous shooter, I came across mention of a Geller-Ward & Hasner Hardware Co.---a distributor of firearms and sporting goods---and apparently a rather large one, given they had a line of shotguns branded with their name.(!!!)
I was not amused---but I learned a lesson!
