About 20 years ago I bought a 1950 Colt Officers Model Target Heavy Barrel (see pic). It came with a set of standard and target grips. When I fitted the target grips, they were a little larger than the backstrap. Can anybody tell me what other Colt revolver they'd fit? The consensus on this forum is that they are Sandersons (see pics). I'd like to sell them but I don't know what they fit on.

They should fit all Colt I- and E-frame revolvers.

If they are indeed for the OMT you have, then they should fit ANY Colt E or I frame revolver.

Just be aware that after the mid '50s or so, Colt started allowing their rebound pin to protrude from the grip frame surface. Therefore, any grips on those guns need to have a "relief" cut for the rebound pin to fit properly. Much like the "relief" cut you see on the left panel for the rear sideplate screw, and actually you can see a slight depression in the same panel where the rebound pin is.

Those grips could be for a New Service if they are absolutely too big for the E/I frames, but I think what you are experiencing with the "over hang" is just the variances between frames. Most likely those grips were made and fitted to a different gun, then ended up on this gun. So the backstrap fit isn't perfect.

They're not so far outsized as to be for a New Service, I think. Everywhere else they fit the gun just fine. I'll take another set of pics showing the amount of overhang on the grip frame. It's significant enough to make me think it's for another frame size, but my knowledge of Colt revolvers is lacking.

UPDATE: It's the Colt factory grips that are too big. The Sandersons fit just fine. My question now is, what size frame are these Colt grips for? They're stamped 564083 and match the contours of the frame with the exception of the backstrap. I've posted a few more pics.
