advertised as in excellent condition, all original. I did not have time to ask questions, agreed to look at it Tuesday. I do not have a 1917, so was wondering what I should look for when checking it out. I know some were Parkerized and some were commercial models, as well as the blued military models, but as the 1917 is not in my primary area of interest I really do not know much about them. They are asking $850.

What should I look for in determining whether I should purchase it?

Thanks for you help

The 1917 was originally offered in blue. During WW II, some were parkerized and re-issued.

For $850, I would expect the '17 to have at least 95% blue finish, matching grips, lanyard loop, and a clean bore.

Checked out the gun today. It had post WWll diamond Magna stocks, and had been reblued. Otherwise it was in nice condition with matching numbers. But it did have some dings around the muzzle like it had been dropped. I passed even though they dropped the price by another $75.
