LGS disappointment

I haven't been able to buy anything for months but I thought I'd stop by the old LGS just to check things out.
Surely, I thought, the extra time has allowed things to get more normal, maybe.

WRONG!!!!

Bullets - better than before but no variety. Very little in what I was looking for. .38, 9mm, .30 cal rifle. They had a bunch of .50 cal stuff.

Powder - not a speck of pistol powder. Not even very much rifle powder.

Primers - decent supply

Brass - One bag of .38 and one of .243, outrageously priced.

loaded ammo - They had some white box stuff but the SD rounds cost form $25 to $35 for 20

It looks like I'm going to have to scour the internet

You buy brass at your LGS? Fer sher it's gonna be pricey.
I have a few K of 9mm brass I could be persuaded to part with. Shoot me a PM if yer interested.

$1+/round for SD ammo is pretty normal in my area.

Popular powders are still scarce in my area. When it shows up on the internet it disappears pretty quickly. Right now Varget is a red hot commodity. Scalpers are making a killing at $30-$35/lb.

I must have great taste in bullets because the ones I like are still always sold out.

Same thing most everywhere I suppose. For a while it was primers, now it's powder. Plenty of rifle powder here but no pistol powder or shotgun powder to be found, plenty of primers though. Sign of the times, at least for now.

I don't usually buy brass at the LGS but i'm really looking for some .357 stuff.

A couple of guys on this site helped me out with 9mm and 30-06 brass, bless their hearts.

i have the same deal with bullets. Like I said, there was more on the shelves but not what I wanted.

I was scraping up supplies with a passion until a few months ago when we went broke. I was hoping that the 'vacation' would give time for things to get better, but no-o-o-o-o. I'm still broke, but if there was anything in the LGS (bullets and powder) that I could use I would have sprung for it. As it was I walked out with a handful of primers, because you can never have too many primers.

I'm only loading handgun ammo right now, but luckily I live near a local caster and he has plenty of bullets and primers, and I have enough brass to last me a couple lifetimes, so I guess I am lucky. The only thing that is semi-scarce is 22 rimfire, and I've been able to find that locally at $25/brick for Rem Golden bullet, and I have several bricks in reserve. I will not pay $50/brick.

Ammo reserves are catching up, rest assured. Try and be patient. Prices are going to continue to fall and availability will get better.
