LGS find 5946

I jumped on the 5946 bandwagon a few years ago and sent it down to BMCM for a little work. I must have mentioned to him I was without a 5906 at the time and he suggested we convert the DAO into DA/SA. He did his usually superb work and BINGO I have a 5946/06. And a beautiful piece of work it is.

That sounds cool. My brother picked up a 5906 at the gunshow yesterday.

Well i got my email back from S&W, 1991 manufacturer date.

S&W customer service has responded with the manufacture year. I send the request using the contact form on this page:

In one case I had an M&P pistol that had had the sights changed and they told me the SKU of the gun. For details about who they sold it to, etc. you will need to get a letter.

Pick this up today, needs some tlc. But i been wanting another 5900 series and found this one and had money on me so it followed me home. For some reason S&W is a pain for me to look up and learn anything about it. Story is a retiring officer bought his service weapon and finally upgraded and my LGS got it on trade.
Serial # BEM 33XX if anyone can give me any information on ship date, manufacturer date or where to go to look it up or who at S&W to contact about it.
Be nice to know what law enforcement agency it was originally shipped to if the story is true.
Best I have figured out (if I figured it correctly) its an early 5946 model maybe???

Whats a "job 5946"?

I believe that the NYPD authorized the use of the 5946 in the past. The "Job" usually refers to someone employed by that agency specifically or law enforcement in general. Hence the vernacular.

As an aside, congratulations! You have a great pistol. I won't part with mine.
