Life after retirement...

Thanks for citing my post, and for expanding on it so thoroughly. Your point about "exist" holds water and is worth considering before "walking out the door."

Interesting thought about the young folks. Not having young people in my family, or anyone else for that matter, I did not realize some turned down jobs. Surprising to me since it always feels good to have some scratch in one's pocket.

Good shooting and happy holidays!

I don't reckon to ever retire "proper." I been working since 12, an even 50 years. I figure to work at my present gig until 67 (5 years) and then one more career. I get 14 weeks off a year and without the structure and responsibility of work, my discipline drops off rapidly. Just me, I envy folks who find enough meaning in life with leisure pursuits. My obit "the ol' sombagun was out pushing a row of shopping carts and just keeled over. Cleanup on aisle 3." Joe

I don't mind work, just don't want to do it all the time. One week off in the last three years, could use a little time to get unfryed. My employer has a big building project in the works and when that's over, two and a half to three years, I'm going to retire to something I enjoy. Maybe do some gunsmithing, or maybe a food truck serving up some great barbeque, but only weekends and special events. Maybe just some hunting and fishing.
Just bought the home we will retire in, selling the over priced too big house and getting something that fits our hobbies and life style.
