Life's Simple Pleasures

"What are your simple pleasures in life?"
Sitting in my back yard drinking Hendricks and Topo watching my ducksand listening to the Greatful Dead. Am also working on my "even though you think I'm too old, I am gonna do this and either succeed or die failing greatly" project. As you can surmise, it involves a boat and a several thoudand mile adventure solo.

A hot cup of joe in the morning, a cold Bud in the afternoon. All the time I spend with my wife, and any time I can spend with my daughters. Our hundred pound English lab sitting on my feet in the morning until he has his rubs, and the walks he takes me on shortly thereafter. I like seeing old friends, some of which I've had for 50+ years, and hanging with new friends when they 'make the grade'. I suppose I could go on, but you get the picture. Simple pleasures suit me fine.

Last night I had applesauce, watermelon and peach slices. They were the first non-liquid foods I have ingested in over 6 months.

Pleasurable is an understatement.

I have turned a happy corner.
Bravo! Considering all you've been through, I'd say you rounded the corner with a major pleasure. Keep fighting the good fight!

A nice glass of wine while preparing a meal. I don't know why I enjoy this so much. Fixed a nice salad last night with shrimp and bacon, purple onion, Roma tomatoes, cheese and had a nice Vermentino from Paso Robles. Life is good.

Hot days of Summer on a Sunday morning dressed in sloppy shirt, shorts and floppy sandals or slippers.
Open the slider around 6am to get the morning breeze through the house while I cook eggs, bacon/sausage, English Muffin and coffee.
Then going to the outside table and eating while watching the back yard animals do their thing and waiting for the heat of the day.
An extra attraction is seeing my lizards 'chasing' each other or having the Anna's (hummingbird) pay me a visit.

I haven't had a chance to indulge in it for quite some time, but I really used to enjoy a long, lazy soak in a nice warm tub. I'd usually do it equipped with my current book and a beverage, usually coffee, tea, iced tea, cola, or ginger ale. I started doing it when assigned in Germany, taking advantage of those big European tubs. During our last two stateside assignments, Ft. Meade and Ft. Drum, I used to try to get in one session each weekend when I drove to our farm to fix up the old 1880 farmhouse. Used the big claw-footed iron tub in the upstairs bathroom. When I was first retired, I used to time my soak with the little ones' naps. I enjoyed the experience all the more as I reflected back on two diametrically opposed experiences: playing in the tub as a kid and all those years of S,S,&S and crashing out of the barracks for reveille.
