Beautiful pawn shop find on a 14-2 . Like New '67 vintage. Went out to the range and was having failure to fire , light firing pin strikes. Came home and installed some different springs. Rebound spring seemed way to light and installed a hammer spring out of my 66-4.
But, it seems that the strain screw isn't putting enough pressure on the hammer spring.
Any of you guys ran across this?
I've been using CCI primers for ever and have never had this problem with any of my S&W's

My guess is your strain screw has been shortened; suggest trying a stock "square butt" screw or a grade 8, 8-32 cap screw to check it.
My model 14 is very happy with the original 60's stock springs and strain screw.

Thanks for that info. I had no idea what the thread pitch was.

I have a 66 smith same problem. Bought a new strain screw it was only 8 thousand longer didn't think it was enough too make a difference. Installed it solved the problem. Haven't had another light strike.
